View Full Version : Frontier Sportsman Club
I spoke with a FSC executive board member today. He informed me that the club was going to install 200 new members in 2011 and as of today have only 100 applicants.
I was also told that FSC would build a 1000 yd range in 2011 with pits and pulling targets. This EB member told me that there will be firing lines at 200yd 300yd 300m 500yd 600yd and 800 900 1000 yards.
Can't wait to give it a try.

I've been a member at Frontier for the last few years ... I've met nothing but nice folk every time I go out. And the facilities are pretty good (especially considering the low annual fee and no daily fees)
how do you become a member?
I'm not holding my breath on the 1000yd range but overall it is a nice deal for $75 per year.
http://frontiersportsman.org/ is the site, $150 first year and $75 after.
If you want to get out and see the Falcon range come out to the CPM shoot 2nd sunday for $5 or send me a PM and I'll take you out sometime.

Just so I'm clear, if you are a member of Frontier, can you use both the Falcon and the Security ranges?
Also, what is their policy regarding a member bringing guests?
If you are a member you can use both ranges. I can bring guests but can only have 2 targets up at a time. I have had 4 guests with me in the past but only 2 people shooting at a time. There is no cost to bring guests.

Sweet! I guess I'll just have to wait until March (I've been on the list since November-ish).

I held my breath for many years when the whole concept of the south range was brought up. Maybe one day.

Hello All
I'm the membership manager for FSC. Just a few words so everybody is on the same page:
1) Annual dues are $75 Plus a one time charge of $100 to join.
2) You must be a NRA member. Our insurance is cheap because of this ($6.73 per member/year). This is ridgidly enforced.
3) New member applications will be invited January 1 2011.
4) As of today we have 170 apps. in queue.
5) The Board of Directors has voted to build the 1000 yd range this year at the Fountain complex in 2011.
6) Questions or comments just email me.
Regards, Earl

This is good news. Having watched BLGC go through lengthing our rifle range, I can tell you it will take some time depending on how it's built. It took about a year to expand the range and make a new berm. It took a couple more months to get the covering built on it. [Driver]

Welcome Earl. ;)
I look forward to the new range. I myself prefer the Fountain range over the Falcon one. And if someone would like to see (and try) the Fountain range drop me a line.

not to sound like a dick but, i think adding 200 more members is a bad deal. if the range needs more money up the dues $25 a year.i stopped going to the range on the weekend a couple of years ago because here where so many people. i have been going through the week and i keep seeing more and more people.i was at the falcon range today and the pistol,25 yrd and 50 yrd range was hammered. it was almost more of a pain in the ass then it was fun.[Bang][Bang]

I shot rifle on Saturday and Tuesday at the 200 and 300 lines. Not many people at all, mostly I was alone on the line. Mind you this was during the holidays when more people are off work and with great weather.

FSC has two ranges one at Falcon the other at Fountain. Due to encroachment concerns and a member putting 5 rounds of M193 ball over the hill hitting a garage in November 2009. The Falcon range will close in time. Maybe today or in ten years.Who knows?
In 1999 we purchased 453 acres of land near Fountain and started by duplicating the ranges at Falcon so FSC could maintain if Falcon closed. The pistol range firing line at Falcon is 220 feet long, Fountain is 750 so no crowding there. Fountain is divided in two parts, 7.5 10 15 yd holders are 400 feet long and the 25 50 yd holders are 350 feet long. Short range and long range sides do not have to clear for each other. There is a divider berm.
There is two 225 feet long 100 yd firing lines with a divider berm. Both sides also have holders at 50yds. The 300 yard line is 200 feet long with holders at 200 yds also.
All the above mentioned ranges have concrete firing lines with benches. There is also two informal ranges 60 yd and 100 yd. You can shoot water jugs etc. here. NO GLASS OR OLD REFRIGERATORS, TV'S ETC. Just make sure all bullets stay in the berms.
This range is surrounded by State land so encroachment will not be a problem.
There are no plans to raise dues or institute a work bond. We try to stay as low on dues as we can.
This board is driven by the needs of the full membership and possible Falcon closure. The long range had to wait till last for the above mentioned reasons but 2011 will rectify this.
Questions comments email or call.
Regards, Earl
I was down at the south range a few weeks ago. I didnt see much (any) work on any of the ranges past 300.
Anyone know if any progress has been made?
Kyle and I finally broke down and submitted to be put on the list (hopefully, haven't heard anything)... it'd be nice to finally have a place to shoot clays some rifle and longer than 200 yards within manageable driving distance for me.... I'm excited.
Congrats BigBear! I really like shooting there, but I've never shot anywhere else.
You won't hear anything until the request for your packet. I'm not sure if we've met our quota this year or not (we added a couple of hundred more memberships this year... I was one of them). There's no process for figuring out where you are in line.
@Hoser: I haven't heard/seen anything either.

Rgr, I was told not to hold my breath for this year but I will anyways... Also heard something about a work load. That'd be fun to actually work and help build a range. I am not licensed anymore but I used to drive Cats, front loaders, etc.
5) The Board of Directors has voted to build the 1000 yd range this year at the Fountain complex in 2011.
Any updates for us Earl?
Flew over the south range this weekend. There did not appear to be any progress on the 1,000 yard range as of yet...

I flew over the south range Thursday and still no progress...
Huge bummer seeing as how 2011 is gone and 2012 is most of the way gone.
