The World's Largest Army. American Hunters?
The state of Wisconsin has gone an entire deer hunting season without someone getting killed. That's great. There were over 600,000 hunters. Allow me to restate that number. Over the last two months, the eighth largest army in the world -- more men under arms than Iran ; more than France and Germany combined -- deployed to the woods of a single American state to help keep the deer menace at bay. But that pales in comparison to the 750,000 who are in the woods of Pennsylvania this week. Michigan 's 700,000 hunters have now returned home. Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it is literally the case that the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world. America will forever be safe from foreign invasion of troops with that kind of home-grown firepower.
Hunting - it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of national security!

I have always felt this way. We send our men and women overseas to fight on their turf for good reason, we don't need that shit on our soil. But if the worst case ever came down to it, who ever decides to send foot shoilders here will be going home with one hell of an ass whooping no questions asked. There are a rediculious number of armed citizens, and sooo many more would come out of the wood work if shit ever did hit the fan>[M2]

Nice numbers!
Thanks for the sobering perspective.
Now if we were really free to practice our 2nd amendment, all those folks would have an automatic weapon, case of grenades, and maybe some sort of RPG device in their closet. Hypothetical- Then we might be able to (God forbid) go toe-to-toe with our government if it were to (cough) become tyrannical. To make an academic point, The reason we have our 2nd amendment is to correct tyrannical regimes. Citizens should be able to keep pace with its governments small arms.
Just sayin'
I like the article but of all the children, seniors, and disabled who hunt I'd be surprised if 1/4 of them would be of much use in a war.
not counting those who never hunts but have enough guns to arm a small neighbourhood if SHTF...

I don't remember the exact quote (and I'm too lazy to look it up right now) but Yamamoto said basically the reason he'd never consider invasion of the mainland U.S. was because there would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.

I think that's exactly what he said.

I've read that no one can actually confirm he ever really said that ....

Yamamoto is the most well known Imperial Navy Admiral..and I guess people relate any other Imperial Navy Admiral to him.
The original quote was...
In 1960, Robert Menard was a commander aboard the USS Constellation when he was part of a meeting between United States Navy personnel and their counterparts in the Japanese Defense Forces.
Fifteen years had passed since VJ Day, most of those at the meeting were WWII veterans, and men who had fought each other to the death at sea were now comrades in battle who could confide in each other.
Someone at the table asked a Japanese admiral why, with the Pacific Fleet devastated at Pearl Harbor and the mainland U.S. forces in what Japan had to know was a pathetic state of unreadiness, Japan had not simply invaded the West Coast.
Commander Menard would never forget the crafty look on the Japanese commander's face as he frankly answered the question.
'You are right,' he told the Americans. 'We did indeed know much about your preparedness. We knew that probably every second home in your country contained firearms. We knew that your country actually had state championships for private citizens shooting military rifles. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass. We were not fools to set foot in such quicksand.'

I am also one of the non hunters with a little fire power... You have to think about it though. If someone did invade, they already know about America and those of us that live by our 2nd amendment rights. If someone did invade, they would either be very stupid, or, have something that they believe we would not be prepared to fight against.
Well, if you think about it though, Somebody could invade certain sections of both coasts now, with no opposition. And, as long as they did not proceed much further, The rest of the country would have the attitude of, "Fine, they are yours now, You support 'em."
Marlin, you are preaching the true gospel right there! I wonder if there is a way we could "encourage" someone...... Maybe France? Jamaica??
I am still in favor of giving everything east of Ohio and north of the Mason-Dixon line to the Chinese to settle our debt. Especially DC.

An invasion doesn't worry me so much. I think we, the military, would be able to see that coming and plan accordingly. It's those chicken shit acts of terrorism that concern me. If any sort of biological warfare were to take place on American soil I believe I would feel very helpless.

I'd worry about the enemy within as they are winning.
