View Full Version : Fatty McFatts on a goal....
Ok,
What is the best stomach/ab/"lovehandle" workout you know?
I can do situps all day long and they don't seem to help. I know cardio and eating right is the first rule/step. I'm just sick of being fat in the stomach/lovehandles area and would like to try some different routines. So whatcha got?
Thanks guys,
Tim BigBear
Foxtrot, rgr that. Thank you. But HOW!?! What excercises do I do? I'm not trying to get a 6 pack, I just want to get rid of some fat.
I hear that aerobic exercise is what you need, such as bikes, elliptical machines, etc. Go to a gym and tell them what you want to do, they can probably hook you up. I'll probably be a lardass until I die.
perfect opportunity for extra attention from the Mrs.
"but honey, it's great exercise!"

Cardio, eat right, cardio, eat right, cardio, eat right......................... Running is best, but even a bike would be a good start depending on where you are at right now. Do a google search on some good foods for weight loss, and set up a 5 (or so) meals a day plan, eat every couple hours. I wouldn't even worry about crunches/situps at this point.
I've been lazy a couple times in my life now, but i've done a great job of getting back in shape (from 5'9" 230 to 160 right now), I run a few miles a day 4 days a week and regularly do pull ups and dips throughout the week. You can do it too, once you get into a routine, it's very simple and becomes a lifestyle. If I were down in the Springs, i'd be more than happy to help you out as far as training is concerned.

I'm with ya Bear. I got to my local fitness center 3-4 times a week. I feel great and I know it helps my all around health but handle loss-nope. I've been told that you need aggressive exercise to make a real difference. Not exactly sure what that means but apparently it's not what I'm doing. [ROFL1]
No one can ever have the correct answer for this, everyones body is diffrent and your intake and output are diffrent as well.
I think you need to focus on diet, processed foods metaboize better thus turn to fat easier, try moving to whole foods only and dont forget you need to use more calories then you intake.
That being said, you are going to have to try everything to find your right answer for your body.

This is a good site for tracking your food intake and weight loss, it definitely puts things into perspective, it's not much fun counting calories, but it helps to motivate once you start seeing results.

You've been talking to my wife? Kidding. Good advice.

Rgr. Running huh? "I don't run" If I can't kill it, it deserves to kill me. HAHA.
I have horrible knees due to them both being broken along with the left femur and right shin in my car wreck, so even after 10+ years, it's still kinda hard on me to run full out for any length of time. I'm more of a sprinter than an endurance guy, HAHAHA.
But no excuses, I do have acess to a bike and that will work as well.

A bike is a great start, that is what I started out on after I put on a few extra lbs and was out of the running game. I know quite a few people that have bad knees and such, they really like those eliptical machines, I can't stand them, but many like them.

HIIT cardio works really well, and rather quickly for burning fat.
Resistance training will also burn excess fat effectively, but takes a little longer to get to a point that shows results.
I thinks its been covered alot already, but diet makes up 70% of the equation with whatever excercise routine you go with.
If you can't give up the delicious, awesome tasting foods that are so good on the lips, just go on the Hollywood Diet of Hookers and Coke
[Weight]
That seems to work quick, minus those side effects of death and incarceration...
On a serious note though, I wish you luck. And from a personal experience, start slow. Don't go all gung-ho and workout 7 days a week. You'll burn out quick and get tired of it.
Much good advice above, my 2c’s…
As stated already, changing body composition is all about your dietary program first and foremost (i.e. cutting-up needed for abs). Second, no matter what, you will never overcome genetic limitations, be realistic in your goal setting. Thirdly, for ab work I like basic crunches with perfect form and slow(er) cadence at the tail-end of my core and/or leg-days (brutal dead-lift sessions followed by some DB squats as a finisher for quads and straight to crunches works well for me). Hanging raises are excellent as well and I also like "Heisman poses" (pull and hold) as a burner. I also do moderate-rate cardio rowing (machine), hits the lowers on extension. Target the oblique’s too, helps with framing the abs properly.
Net- Up the cardio, up the protein, up the good fats, lower the carbs, do not skimp overall on [good] calories, hit abs/oblique’s really hard 2x per week (3 or more is a waste IMO) and manage to what your body will give you overall. In my case, I can “4-pack” all day long but I have lower ab limitations on development capability [muscle fiber type/availability] and traditional male fatty deposits to contend with, I'm getting older man, and I would have to cut way more than I’ll allow [wasting] for that minor return on investment or “look” for a 6. Do not be afraid to eat good foods [no processed or packaged poop – sux anyway] and have a long-term outlook, maintaining fitness and having a decent body is not a race man, it’s a lifestyle.
In closing, I’m not advocating this for you or anyone else, nor am I going to venture into the moral, legal or safety discussions but…I’m hanging it out there as fact. The above coupled with an intelligent and managed Test/Winstrol/Clen/ cycle w/ ancillaries for proper recovery and a well-planned “cutting” strength program will bring em’ out in even the most stubborn circumstances. Again, I'm NOT telling you to do this, just giving you some material to research. If you are an old fuck (I do not recall that you are) a pharmaceutical route can be physician sponsored and legal in certain circumstances. I’m leaving it at that.
Good luck, Bear, focus on the whole body and dietary and the abs...they’ll come by default.

AHAAHAHAHHA!!!
Get in shape:
- Round is a shape!
- Why have a 6 pack when you can have the whole keg?!
- I don't skinny dip, I chunky dunk.
- I'm not fat, I'm tactically padded!
etc.

Diet and habit changes are the first step, yes. Generally, eat healthier food, raw or lightly cooked veggies when you can, and up your protein. Protein availability + some basic lifting/bodyweight exercises (push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups, deep squats, etc.) will lead to building muscle, which incinerates fat. Cardio is needed and if you have knee problems, running will be very difficult, uncomfortable and painful. The elliptical machine takes the stress from hitting the ground, and the heavier you are, the more you feel it while running. The bike is also good. Swimming is AMAZING for cardio, and in a short amount of time, I'm going to re-incorporate that into my running/kung fu/lifting routine.
What you're really in need of is extended cardio. For the first half hour or so, your body is running on immediate energy reserves (what you've eaten that day). After that initial half hour, your body switches over to pulling energy from reserves. So use a half hour of exercise as a bench mark. Target heart-rate should only be at about 60% or so. Basically, you want mildly strenuous activity for MORE than half an hour. You don't have to go crazy with an exercise regimen unless it's your prerogative to do so. Good luck![Beer]

I told my wife that I still have my 6-pack abs.
I now just have a couple of shot glasses to go with.

Ya know, I used to hate cardio also, but now I actually enjoy it, especially the endorphine rush I get out of the deal.
Carbs are probably my biggest downfall, I eat VERY little bad fat, but I loves me some bread products. I'm in really good shape, but if i'd just cut out the carbs, i'd certainly have a six pack.
As said in another thread, if anyone wants to do some early morning gym time at the Lifetime fitness in Parker, just hit me up. We are starting to get the New Years resolution A$$ holes already.

25lbs. down in 4 months, still tactically padded, but feeling great.

Look up fartleks. Running in a group was the best way for me. Indian Run/Army Runs were my favorite. Also, plyometrics will kill you in the best possible. I have P90X and it is a great work out, but the guy is annoying as fuck and you just want to kill him the whole time. I think if you go to Crossfit.com, they list a different work out to do every day to keep things new and fresh.

i hate eating right, its so hard, +1 on group things that helps alot if someone else calls you a slack ass for not doing it
I've been on a run of dropping lbs for the past 4-5 months now and I am not at all worried about putting them back on because of how I've done it. I find one thing that is a bad habit and cut it out until its fully gone. started with soda, it was easy, tea and coffee all over. moved to fast food, moved to not working out, and it just built on itself. Just sold my car, so I need to bike commute now. I don't have too many bad habits left, worst I do is going on shooting trips with a guy who is trying to gain weight! After a while for me it just seemed natural, I can barely drink a full soda anymore and McDonalds holds no appeal and the pounds just keep dropping off (last time I had both was on a shooting trip, had half a Mt. Dew and a sausage McMuffin and felt like crap. I don't want to do that shit ever again.)
I also switch from using negative goals to positive. Drop 10 pounds, you get a 1911, drop 20 you get something else, etc. If I put em back on, I don't get to play anymore. told my wife I was doing this to keep me honest. Personally, There are few meals on earth I wanted more than a Colt. Even if its not monetary, maybe a camping/hunting trip or some such. Got to pick you own poison though. Trying hard and going fast, I have used before and when I got to where I wanted to be, all my bad habits still existed and I just went right back to it and put all the weight back on. With some work I will have to change the screen name to just Mat soon. Good luck, its worth it and you can do it. Take it easy get it done. On thing I keep in mind is "lifestyle" I don't count it as a diet or a rutine, this is how I want to live from here forward. I keep that in mind and it keeps me from getting to impatient and makes me focus on not burning out. I'll buy a car someday again.

More calories out than in. It's all about the calories. Get on a good, healthy diet and you will see results. I lost 50 pounds (because I got sick) and I got toned real quick like. Yeah I was super skinny but my muscles were very defined, not huge but defined, because I had about 1% body fat. CALORIES!
Protein intake is also vital to weight loss.

Dang Graves. Posting that comment with that avatar! Funny.
hmmm... interesting stuff. I should take a before and after pic... No, I'm not putting them up on here! HA.
Graves.... your comment with your avatar is a little weird! HAHA.
Well if you like the outdoors head for the high country, just walking and eating no carbs will help.( we eat good just no bread, pie, stuff like that)
I usually drop 10#'s or more during our 2 week hunt.
A cuz of ours went this year and he was 290, big football boy, but he dropped 18#'s and said I walked him to death.
However inspired by his wieght loss he hit the gym and continued to lose, he has dropped a total of 27#'s and his mnees don't hurt as much.
Oh yeah muscle has memory so if you were ever competitive ( powerlifter here, wife was a body builder before the women found steroids)
You will see improvement fast. If not it will take a bit longer.
