View Full Version : Complete Lower Suggestions?
I did a search but didn't find an answer...
I'm looking to buy a complete AR-15 lower (m4 style). I see MANY different brands from CMMG, Bushmaster, Colt, Spikes Tactical, etc...
Was wondering if there is such a thing as "best" or maybe ones to avoid, best value, over-priced...
Looking for suggestions.
TIA
Cheapest forged lower you can find.

Check out Aero Precision out of lakewood, WA. $79 per lower. (I think surplusammo.com) I am thinking about picking a couple up for future builds. They look clean and have good reviews for a forged lower. I haven't found a good reason to buy a fancy billet lower yet, except they look BA.
Here Palmetto has their own lowers now for $69.95 and I believe they are made by Aero!!

My thoughts exactly. If I ever have some extra coin laying around(yea right) I would buy a billet lower for the "cool" factor!!

+1
I picked up the assembled lower minus the buttstock for $129.95. After the transfer fee and shipping, I think I was in it for $165 or so. The year before I bought the same thing by Bushmaster for $260 after taxes. The trigger on the Aero Precision had a hell of a lot less creep than the BM did from the factory. I ordered it from surplusammo.com and transferred through Dave at Protekt Solutions. [Beer]
I am sure jensens has a bunch. last time I looked (which was a while ago), RRA lowers were around $260 complete. a little more with the 2 stage trigger.
also check out del-ton. you can get those cheap as well.
Black Rain. Go Billit. FailZero. Timiney or however you spell it. Walther barrel.

Looks like some of the previous suggestions are quite a bit cheaper, but you can get a Bravo Company Cosmetic Blem lower w/m4 stock for $285 shipped (not including any FFL fee). I don't have any experience with their lowers, but have one of their uppers, and I am thoroughly pleased with it. I plan on matching my upper with one of their lowers as funds allow.

This is something that I am looking at also. Here is some information that I have found that should help you make a choice based on what is important to you and how much you have in your wallet. The main stream lowers are all made by different companies then they are licensed to put their logo on it. So name means very little with the exception of custom or pet name jobs that are generally twice as expensive.
Here is a forum that I found that has a lot of info about the different manufacturers:

Here is a link that has a lot of info about the differences in construction methods and quality of different components as related to the manufacturer:

The old school of thought was:
A - armalite
B - Bushy
C - Colt
D - DPMS
R - RRA
Now days, technology has changed so much that a guy can take an 80% lower and mill it into a legit 100% stripped lower. I'd review/research each vendor from this site:

I prefer the following now:
DSarms - cost per performance
Mega - 1st pick if it's available.
RRA - 2nd pick, since the majority of my uppers are RRA.
