What? Who? How? Where?

Seriously who is this guy and what are these curtains you speak of?

This Christo guy wants to put curtains over the river for something like a mile or more. The project involves miles of fabric, hundreds of pilings, excavation of the river bank in some areas and on and on. Plus the river canyon going from Salida to Texas Creek is narrow and the traffic and headaches that is going cause is going to tremendous.

Just do a google search for christo and see some of the crap he's done. Apparently the art culture is all goo goo over this guy. They pay big bucks for his paintings and whatever else.

Didn't the wind blow the last one down in less than 24 hrs? He spent like months getting ready, and then Poof it was gone.

And they're actually going to let him do this?

For those who don't know, this is the same "artist" who draped New York City's Central Park in bright orange fabric last year.

So what this jack off runs around warpping everything in cloth and stacking up oil barrels and calls them art?

Well shit man come to my back yard. if you see a piece of "art" you like I will sell it to you.

I think its interesting and is quite stunning visually. I saw those umbrellas he did back in California. Its really quite an interesting sight.

Now while I think its "interesting" artwork or whatever you want to call it, if he's leaving a mess in its wake, I'm not in favor of that. I just assumed he cleaned up after it was over.....

IF (big IF) you are going to do something like this, then I can't think of a better mountain river than the Arkansas. It's the most rafted river in the world, and it's entirely lined by a U.S. Highway, countless flyfisherman, kayakers and people who drive too damn fast anyway.

It may be an inconvenience to people, but most people don't like most people anyway, so who cares? In other words, if man is going to crap in a nest, he should do it in his own nest.

It's better than the Selway River or some other mountain river that would suffer, envirnmentally, much, MUCH more from activities of man such as this proposal.

Ah...yup.

The museum has pictures and a scrap of fabric and many locals have scraps too.

When I saw this yesterday, all I could think of is "how much money did this cost taxpayers?" with the court fights or whatever and the permitting etc. I hate people who waste tax dollars. Of course the solution to that is to make less tax dollars available to the government.

and after all the bs its cancelled.

Once again another thing blamed on trump. Instead of being truthful with the fact the "artist" was running out of money on a case he's been shot down before on.

They should have him build a big wall along the Rio Grande river. I would probably donate to that kind of art.

If it was going to happen, he had ten years prior to trump to do so. He must also be George Martin's seamstress, and this is a convenient excuse.

Thank goodness though. Can't imagine more damage to a river than covering it with a mile of litter.

Longer than that, he has been trying to get it approved for over 20 years.

Yep. $hitty way to admit defeat. Blame others for your failures.

Thread is from 2006. Old members that have been purged get reclassified as "guests."

P.S. Honestly, I didn't notice the older post dates.

Truth.

The original poster has been long gone, so it shows guest since his account was purged. Closing thread.

Banned members show as banned. Purged accounts that have been inactive for 10+ years are deleted instead of banned and therefore show up as guests.
