I thought I'd try it myself and then thought better. Can you guys recommend someone?? Is it expensive as hell??
Don't be too intimidated. I finish wood for a living, and it can be pretty simple and almost foolproof. PM me or call me if you want to talk about it. (Phone number can be found on my website...)

There's a lot of kits available at most sporting good stores. I did one a long time ago and it came out pretty good. [Beer]

It's not really hard, just time consuming and takes a bit of elbow grease. The trick is being patient, and not rushing things. Oh, and NOT sanding the checkering![ROFL1]

Yes, and yes. Great work from both of them too.
Not trying to cut into anybody's business, but try it yourself. It's not hard, but very satisfying when you're done! It can be confusing, because there's a hundred different ways to do it. All of them right and all of them wrong, depending on who you ask. If nothing else, at least get a broken, junker stock of some kind just to practice on, you might be surprised at the results.
What kind of stock are you talking about? That kinda dictates whether it's a pro job or one you can try yourself. Refinishing the wood from a Weatherby is a different job than refinishing a $100 Mosin from Big 5.
