I never have built an AR. And have been thinking about buying a stripped lower and parts kit and doing my own attempt at building.

What do you guys think. Buy complete or build how hard is it?
anything to look out for etc

I built my last one and my thoughts are : understand the works of the gun better-took my time and custom built as I went-a lot easier than you may think-usually more affordable unless you go crazy on the custom built idea-complete tutorials to build on ARFCOM (I know a lot of guys don't like that site but a wealth of info on there)- buy quality and you'll be fine. I started with a Stag stripped lower. Got my LPK from Bower's and went from there. [Beer]

As long as you have mastered tinker toys or legos, You can pretty much put together an AR.

The two rules that must be followed are;

1) make sure the hammer spring is in correctly.

2) If it's your first build, Buy at least duplicates of all springs..

i build my first, its super easy and doesnt take long and you really feel good after its done. Trying to remeber what tools you need, but i think a hammer, something to punch to push the pins in.

When I got my first AR, I built it from a stripped lower as well.

I would recommend this because it gives you a very good idea of the inner workings.

after receiving my kit. I needed to go out and buy a small punch kit for tapping the pins into place.

a smaller hammer for tapping them in.

I didn't have trouble with the springs, but it is still a good idea to have spares.

thinking back on it. a good work bench or a gun vise (that i have now) would have helped considerably.

oh, and read several guides and look for videos of others building the lower.

If you decide to build your own, you can always feel free to call us for advise. As far as tools go you will need a small hammer, a pin punch set, duct tape so you don't scratch the lower and an armorers wrench. Either a screw driver or allen wrench as well. A vise would be a plus as well.

We can also help out with parts as all forum members get a discount.[Beer]

Spikes is a good low cost forged lower. There are many brands to choose from. Most forged lowers are pretty much the same as far as function goes. You just have to decide what design you like. The AGP lower has a set screw which allows you to adjust the trigger travel which is kinda nice.

Billet will give you more strength and add a little in the looks department. Again there are several to choose from. We carry about 20 brands or more of uppers and lowers.

you don't really need any particular tools besides a hammer and punch, but itll make life a lot easier to have the ones listed above.
