I thought I read something about the Fenix LD01 on here before but couldn't find it so I thought I would repost it. Recently picked up one and really enjoy it for an extremely lightweight flashlight for my survival pack (to help lighten the load) and for my daily loadout. It is so small it can fit right in my pocket.

What is your thoughts on use for weapon lights? How do they handle recoil? I have been a bit of a surefire whore in the past. I see fenix runs cree set-ups, and I wouldn't mind finding a cheaper option.

I don't mind weapons lights for duty, since I am already carrying a bunch of crap on my batman belt. I have a Surefire X200 (I think) on my pistol. Off duty I try to go as lightweight as possible. I know that I shouldn't be responding to a call rather than trying to find an exit if something happens. But a flashlight is something good to have and again the LD01 is lightweight and very small.

Surefire is a good company. Although their LED's only last 4 hours when you need them for 8 hours. But its still pretty good.

I purchased a Fenix LD-10 a few months back, and it's been my favorite daily carry light so far. Very bright for it's size, has a pocket clip, and carries very comfortably in my back pocket.

Streamlight TLRs are great for weaponlights. Cheap too.

I have a cheap Surefire I've never gotten around to upgrading that I carry on my pocket.

I was looking at doing a new scout light type set up for a shotty and maybe a new AR build. I have been told some of the Streamlights change outputs from recoil. That could be a bad thing, in a home defense type scenario.

In comment to the streamlight recoil thing... I wouldn't say it's true in my case, I use the TLR1-C4 model on my carbine, pistol and my shotgun. never had a change in output from them.

OTOH, I have broken a couple of surfire X200's and know a few guys that have broken theirs as well, surefire replaces them, but hey - once the confidence is lost you just dont get it back.

I do carry, exclusively, streamlight flashlights now. The rechargeable ones and the battery powered ones - they just dont break and they are SUPER reasonable. Lately I've bought their little military style light with multiple color LED's in it. Tried to abuse mine a bit, and it doesnt' burp. Multiple levels of white.blue.red.green and strobe function and they run on AA's.

There are, in my experience, occasional problem with ALL heavy use flashlights - the biggest questions to answer are:

1. Will the manufacturer replace them no questions asked (yes to streamlight and surefire)
2. Can I buy spare parts in case I break them and need them NOW. (again, yes to streamlight and surefire)

They serve a HUGE segment of the public safety market and with that size market they just dont mess with you on warranty claims - and the added benefit of local uniform supply stores carrying repair kits for most of their stuff. Usually it's a switch that wears on on a streamlight, or your lens gets scratched and yellowed and they replace it no charge and hand it back.

Can't get better than that.

EXCEPT for the nifty new light in my arsenal. The 5.11 "Light for Life"... It doesn't use batteries, it uses a new type of capacitor and recharges (I am not kidding) in 90 seconds from a full discharged state. I got the medium one (came out last year) and I am thinking I need a second one. A bit larger than the Centurion from surefire, but slightly smaller than a 2D cell maglite. If the other guys start using capacitors (I think they will within five years) then the flashlight game is a whole new deal, it will revolutionize flashlights the way LED's revolutionized lighting.

I have bought several flashlights from dealextreme.com

my Gree cree single CR123 light is over 3 years old, works amazing still.

also got a couple ultrafire C2 flashlights using 2 CR123 batteries.
I have these mounted on my ARs with pressure switches. absolutely awesome. extremely bright, very good throw and spill.

the batteries are the cheap rechargeables but they work great, easy to charge and I bought a bunch of them so I always have plenty sitting around

Streamlights all the way on my end I have a stinger LED that has been dropped from the top of semi trucks ran over buy afore mentioned trucks multiple times etc. and it just keeps going retardedly bright as well. I EDC a Micro stream because it runs on AAA's and is not horribly expensive if i loose it.
/don't want to talk about how many stingers i have bought at a bill a piece though. must evolve legs or something/

I have a Fenix LD20 and I love it. Very light weight and excellent light output. I carry it in my BOB and also carry it when I go backpacking as a backup to my headlamp. I used to just carry the headlamp when backpacking but the Fenix is light enough I don't mind the extra weight to have a backup light source.

Was using my Fenix just a minute ago, and realized how much I've come to love this little light, figured I'd bump this thread with an update.

It's been several years now, since I purchased the LD10, and I can honestly say I have probably carried it every day, and used it a ton. It's been dropped several times, submersed in water a few, and it just continues to perform. They have since come out with a few upgraded versions of this model, and I've been real tempted to pick one up (mainly for higher lumens), but this little thing does everything I need it to.

If you need a great EDC light for a great price, I highly recommend Fenix.

I was a big fan of the Nebo light that charges in the cigarette lighter in your car as it is very tiny and perfect for pocket carry and most of the light needs I require from day to day. However, when I run I like the powerful throw of 200+ lumens. I feel like the Nebo sized Fenix offerings will be a good compromise. I bought my dad an LD22 for Christmas and really like that one as well.

I've had an LD10 in-pocket for around six years now. The scalloped bezel wears out my pockets but I could not be happier with the actual light.

I used a pair of pliers to remove the pocket clip the day I bought it, that's been in the landfill for years.

I have one of their cree bulb assemblies and a clicky tailcap on an old Surefire 6P. The led upped the battery life and burns brighter than the old 60 lamp and the tailcap works great. Definitely brought new life to my old surefire, it now sits in my wildland pack at the firehouse.

This thread just made me realize a flashlight is not a part of my EDC. Can't believe I overlooked this.

Ordered a LD10. Mostly because I want a good flashlight (most of you have carried yours for years and years and that is good enough for me) that does not use an obscure battery.

have you tried the Inova?

INOVA T1TMB-HB Tri Mode LED Flashlight

211 lumens tri mode, I have one mounted on my mossy 12ga, i live on four acres and this thing will light up my whole yard. the push button is on the rear making it right at the end ofmy thumb on the 12 ga, no remote necessary, press it with the thumb without moving my hand at all, perfect position, plenty bright, low beam high beam and a strobe function.

fits nicely in the olight 1 inch mount

I've heard a few good things about these lights recently from a few people and wanted to see what everyone here thought of the Fenix flashlights? Specifically I'm looking at the PD35 (I can get them for about $50) and figure it'd be a good light for the car, etc.

Anybody have one of these and recommend them?

Pros/cons?

Thanks :-)

Edit: Oh, also, if anyone in NoCo wants one let me know, I'll add it to my order (my cost plus a couple bucks to cover taxes)

I carry a PD22 everyday. Have carried it little over a year now. Great light, love it. Only down fall is the pocket clip disappeared, it just clips on.

My buddy uses their headlamp. I will be picking one of them up before backpacking season kicks in.

Great lights in my opinion!

I've had my LD10 for close to 3 years now. It is amazing, worth the price and I've used it nearly every day for more than just a few minutes (engineering work around telescopes during the day in a dark enclosure and at night requires light).

It is starting to get to the point where it is finicky with the batteries I use in it. Sometimes it doesn't turn on and it takes multiple clicks. I don't know if it is the switch that needs replacing (it comes with a replacement rubber switch) or if the circuit is truly dying. Either way, I plan to replace it with either another LD10 or something with more lumens, although I love the LD10 because it uses AA batteries and I am supplied with AA batteries at work for flashlights.

I have 3 TK10s that I use regularly around the house, with my vehicle, and with my camping/backpacking gear. I used one of them A LOT right after my house was built because I didn't have any other homes around us and there was a lot of open space without any lighting. Any time I heard anything, I grabbed the TK10 and went to check it out. It saw a lot of use. All three of them are still in perfect working order, but 2 of them are pretty beat up (cosmetically) from my use.

I have since upgraded two of them to this: http://shop.gregmcgeeengineering.com/MC-G33-XM-LIMITED-037.htm It's harder to cause trouble with 1200 lumens in your face. The MTE lights are very well built and have held up just as well as any other light I've ever had. The LED and the reflector are well-designed to compliment each other for a perfectly even illumination without any dark spots or artifacts. The throw on these is easily 300-400 yards. Best part: Greg is local (Denver) and stands behind his stuff 100%.

I have to comment here, because I commented on my own thread also. I know people hate ebay, but I just picked up a NIB Surefire 6P for $40 shipped. The original 65 lumen incandescent bulb isn't much light, but considering that there are 1000 lumen replacement lamps for $13 shipped with a supposed 1.5 hr run time, the total price isn't bad, and like I'm trying to point out, it's a Surefire.

Uses the 18650's so I own two of those.. keep one on the charger one in the light .. and a spare set of cr123's just incase I somehow don't charge both bat's..

the 18650's last mad longer then cr123's ( well with the 3000mah one's I have)

I'd buy another fenix if I ever mange to break this one.. I dropped it.. thrown it .. used while making an unruly bar patron find his way out the door ( those "tactical" serrations really do work ... ) ... camping .. toured the country with it 3 times on rock tours dropped it once from about 20 feet to wood flooring other then dings and scrapes works just fine.

Zombie thread, but wanted to update on my LD10. It began acting funny, flickering, sometimes working, sometimes not (possibly same issue Buffcyclist was having in post #7). I finally decided to sit down and try to get it working properly, and come to find out, the whole thing including the tail cap comes apart, and is serviceable. The tail cap had become loose, and there was some corrosion around the solder. I cleaned everything up, tightened everything down, and it functions perfect again. The LD10 trudges on, now at nearly 5.5 years of daily carry.

I feel like I have reached a new status on the forum...piggy backing onto my threads...I feel like a salty CO AR15 Veteran.

Awesome!

And I would point out that I have several Fenix flashlights, I carry in gear and what not. I have one that I use on patrol for a backup if my streamlight goes out (because I forgot to charge it). I like them and as always one of the biggest selling factors for me, besides their lower cost, is the usage of regular batteries and not CR123 which tend to be expensive and sometimes a pain to find.

This is the big seller for me. I've got a single CR123 Streamlight, which is a nice light, but damn the batteries are expensive! My Fenix LD10 takes one AA, and is nearly as bright as the Streamlight, and much cheaper to run.

I like solarforce lights. Use li-ion 18650 batteries (or 2 cr123 in some cases).
My favorite light is a S2200. 3 18650 batteries, 2200 lumens. Big as hell, but great for a truck light.

Agreed. I used to carry flashlights on my duty gear that required the CR123 batteries. My last agency sometimes would have piles of them in the battery bin since all of the department rifles had flashlights that used that battery. At my current agency we are required to supply all of our own batteries for all of our personal equipment. So there are a lot more rechargeable batteries being used. For me, I try to remember to charge my streamlight, but if I use it a lot and forget it's nice to have a fairly bright back up light that uses less expensive and common batteries. And since it's mine I often throw rechargeable AA batteries in it that I recharge at home.

Don't get too uppity. [LOL]

I have a Fenix L2D (2 AAs) that has lasted many years. Talked to a Fenix rep. about why they discontinued that model. He could not give me a good reason.

The repost Gods smile favorably upon you.

To make a useful post: Does anyone have experience with the Fenix LD9? I like the idea of only using a single common alkaline battery, and I don't necessarily need 1000000000 lumens for everything.

I ditched 5 or 6 CR123 lights in favor of AA lights with all the power, in a smaller package with a common battery. Zebralights are my current favorite AA lights with a Maratac AAA copper for EDC. I've had several fenix lights, all good, but the ZL won me over for the side buttons and interface plus a 90 degree head suitable good beam projection from a shirt pocket or headlamp position. I do have a couple of 18650-powered lights for work on the ranch. 300 yard spotlight capability in a nice, compact package.

Do any of you use rechargeable cr123 batteries and if so which brand and how do you like them?

I've been using the Tenergy RCR123A's in my EDC. They are LFePO4 vice LiPO ... Supposedly a little more stable in this application ... at least according to the all-knowing inter web .

I've never used the rechargeable CR123 batteries, but Sportsman's warehouse has a 2 pack with wall charger for like $22, I thought about trying it out.

I bought some no-name rechargeable CR123s and a charger from Taiwan about 5 years ago and they still work pretty well.

I also have some Ultrafire 16340s that are pretty good, but the known voltage is 3.6V, not 3.0V. Some flashlights can handle this and output the same (or brighter) beam. Some flashlights can't handle it and it will fry them immediately. They are also a few mm longer than a CR123A, so not all flashlights can accommodate them. More info here: http://www.batteryjunction.com/uf16340.html

The Ultrafire 16340 batteries are a replacement for standard CR123A batteries in many applications. Sometimes called an RCR123A or Rechargeable CR123A, these cells may be longer than a standard CR123A. Caution must be exercised when using these cells, as they are 3.6V, not 3.0V as is a standard CR123A. The length of the cells are longer than a standard CR123A (up to 1-2 mm longer), so if you're using 2 in series be aware that this extra length will be doubled (up to 4-6 mm) and the cells will be outputting 7.2V(8.4V peak).
