View Full Version : CCW in the Pueblo Mall?

Just a couple/few years ago, I noticed some notices posted in the Pueblo Mall, that firearms and dangerous weapons (knives, knucks etc.,) were NOT allowed in the Mall. Does anyone located in Pueblo know if this prohibition of firearms in the Mall still exists?? Thanks.
Yeah, I know, a CCW carring person can probably just keep it covered/concealed and not worry about it but I'd still like to know of the legality of CCW in that Mall.. Thanks again.

Dunno off the top of my head, but If it's posted, then I wouldn't carry. You can lose your permit and get in trouble that way.

You could check RMGOs list as well, but I know that most malls have that posted

It has been several years since i've been to the Pueblo Mall, I don't ever remember seeing any signs (not doubting you at all, I just haven't noticed). I'm not sure if it's coincidence or not, but I rarely see those types of signs (and i'm normally quite aware of my surroundings). I would never ignore a sign forbidding me to carry, but if it's not in my face enough for me to notice, that seems like the stores problem to me. Sorry for slightly derailing your original post, and not being able to answer your question, I just had to have a short rant about the subject. I'm sure someone will be along to answer your question.

Edited to add: There aren't too many places in Pueblo I would feel comfortable NOT carrying, and the Mall is certainly one of them.

I don't think you can loose your license. If you are made, they can tell you to leave. If you don't leave, then you get a trespassing ticket. It is not illegal to carry there, just against their policy. I'd carry anyway.

This ^^^ but again, I rarely notice signs anyway.

I believe only in government buildings with posted security and schools is it illegal to carry. An establishment can ask you to leave or have you removed but carrying is not illegal there. Stuart is right.

Thanks fellows. I guess I was/still am hoping for someone who frequents the Pueblo Mall to see, on their next visit there, if there are still ANY signs discouraging weapons (guns) in the Mall. Still hope someone from Pueblo will chime in here.

There are no signs posted at the Citadel mall in the springs.

I have not noticed any signs at pueblo mall but I have not been there in over a year. I look for the signs and make it a point NOT to shop where there is a sign.

I think 9 out of 10 businesses probably have some dumb corporate "no weapons" policy, but it doesn't mean anything.

Sorry Bob, I know you're looking for a specific answer. I've never been there.

Stuart is right, if it is a government building or written into law then it is possible you can have legal action taken against you. I doubt there is anything in Colorado Law pertaining to the Pueblo Mall.

I say this, if they movie theater or malls says no conceal carry, then you make your decision. Before I was an officer, my decision was that I will carry. If they find out and ask me to leave, so be it, I will leave. Otherwise they will never know. If I NEED IT, then screw everyone that says I can't have it.

But again, MAKE YOUR OWN DECISION on that.

+1

The only way someone will know if I am carrying is if there's need, and then the trespassing ticket would be the least of my concerns.

And you probably don't have to be told not to come back after you have been to a store that is prone to gun fights.

The truth of the matter is no one knows what would happen if your are caught carrying where a business posts no firearms. There are a lot of theories and the trespassing ticket is what most think would happen but AFAIK it has never actually happened. Or at least no business has ever pushed the issue. The law only states that private property rights are not taken away by it.

I was there three days ago and didn't see any signs. Of course, I wasn't looking for them. There are several entrances and I did not see a sign at the Sears entrance or the Sports Authority entrance.

You are only at risk of trespassing ticket if you are asked to leave and you don't. If you are asked to leave because you are carrying a gun, and don't, then you're asking for more than just a trespassing ticket.

Show me the CRS that states what you would be charged with?

I don't know. I'm under the impression that any business can charge you with trespassing if you are asked to leave and you don't. However, what I'm saying, is that if a business calls the police and says, "There is a guy here with a gun. We told him to leave and he is being stubborn and won't leave." You can at the very least expect an ass kicking from the police.

My only experience with this is working in a bar. Once you tell some dumb drunk a-hole to leave, and they don't, you could have them arrested and charged with trespassing. I really can't imagine that the police will respond to you having a gun in your favor.

Does the Sports Authority store in the Pueblo Mall still carry firearms? Someone recently told me that that particular store discontinued selling them.
I have been asking about firearms being banned from that Mall because I really hate to leave my "hardware" in the vehicle while in the Mall - especially in those large parking lots.
THANKS for all the responses to my inquiry!!

The Sports Authority still has long guns. They had an AR-10 last time I was in that told me I needed to work harder and make more money.

The wife and I went today to let the kid run around and burn off some energy. The mall has become a substitute park in cold weather. We went in the Sears entrance and I looked for signs and didn't see any forbidding open or concealed carry.

The one in Parker sells long guns, but not handguns.

The only way the mall can make it illegal for you to carry with a CCW is to put manned metal detectors at every entrance, or have personnel at every entrance with wands. CRS 18-12-24 (4) a, b, c. If you're asked to leave a place of business, for any reason, and you refuse, you can be charged with tresspass.

The one in Aurora @ the Towne Center has 'em, at prices that made my sides ache....[ROFL1]

example: plain jane 10/22 (nothing special, no scope, nada) $475

Most malls are owned and managed by international property management companies (Simon Properties is a Canadian company and they manage the lion's share of malls in America ... the Pueblo mall is managed by Jones Lang LaSalle out of Chicago ... I wouldn't count Chicago as "America" either :p ).

Most malls ban CCW and don't give a damn about what you, I or even their tenants think about it, the bans will stand and they will not back down.

That said, here in Colorado their stupid signs don't carry any serious legal weight unless accompanied by magnetometers so the only trouble you can get in is if mall security finds you're carrying, asks you to leave and you refuse.

Was just at the Pueblo mall. I've never seen a no firearms sign at any of the entrances. I actually make a point to look for them when I go places just to see who has them and who doesn't. The signs do not, however, alter whether I carry or don't.

rgr, concealed means concealed... unless there is a metal detector (just wear the ceramic Glock, duh!! haha) or express sign, not much anyone can do unless someone sees you printing and informs a rent a cop to escort you out.

Spent a few hours in the Pueblo Mall this morning and did a LOT of walking. Sure were a lot of white hair folks (mature) also walking the perimeter inside the building. Did NOT see any signs prohibiting firearms or dangerous weapons so, I guess as long as they are truly concealed, who's going to know.
