If it is something you are just going to do as a hobby you will be throwing money out of the door by investing in a formal education in it.
Better yet- Look into Trinidad and Cylinder and Slide for week long "Specialty" classes they offer.

They have there NRA classes out. There 1 week long and very good and you can use your GI Bill.

CST hosts seminars from different manufacturers like Sig, Glock and others. May be open to non students at a small cost. Give 'em a call.

The "CST seminars" are armorer's courses by the manufacturers. As long as the manufacturer permits the person attending, CST will. They pay classes and result in you obtaining certified armorer status for that manufacturer. They usually run in price from $150-$450 price set by the manufacturer. Full day classes, many multi-day. About 50/50 you need to have a specific firearm of that manufacturer to attend.

The best way to look into that would be call the CST to see what's available and what spots are open. A lot of LEOs go there to get their armorer's certs.

Keep in mind though, we are talking armorer level training. Which is basically equal to parts swapping.
