Even a mile is far to walk, both ways, for food, if you think about it.
O.....M....G..... a mile is NOT that far to walk, even with kids in tow. If you're trying to load up on a month's worth of groceries maybe, but come on... The Obesation of America at it's finest.
Yeah a mile,,, wooo just too far.

Good Grief-I can still remember as a kid going grocery shopping with my Mom and pulling my Red Flyer wagon and her with one of those collapsible 2 wheel carts to the grocery store once a week. If memory serves me right it was probably more than a mile. [Bang]

We had a little grocery store in our rural area.
My mom would make me ride my bike the 5 miles to and from to get a few things now and then that we forgot.
Took me nearly 4 hours, stopped at pond, watched the man on the tractor, played in the ditch for tadpoles...[Beer]
Should we let these people in these areas in on the Chik-Fil-A thingy?
Does FEMA know this as well?
I stopped after reading this: "There are 2.3 million people living in America with no car and without a supermarket within a one-mile radius. People living in these "food deserts" are often obese and unhealthy because they're stuck eating junk food from the convenience store."
Bull!! They are not "stuck" eating fast food. It's what they WANT because they are too lazy to walk a mile to a real store. A mile is NOT a long ways, even in bad weather. I'm sick and tired of FAT people making me look bad. <--I say that because I am FAT but I at least try to work out and stay in halfway decent shape. I can walk a damn mile if I want a salad instead of BBQ lays potato chips.
They might not have a car but I cna almost garuntee you they have a 50 inch plasma TV, xbox, and the newst phone!

Now days, I have one that is about three blocks away..
Back in the days of my ill spent youth, there was one about a mile away,
My buddy and I would walk over there, get the old pound bag of doritos each, and by the time we got back home, they was gone.. [Tooth]
Who knew...

Man, fuck poor people. I say that, and I'm very nearly poor.
If Obamaism takes hold we will only have the gubment peoples so hang in there.
And yes fuck the poor they should die or be slaves.

Another thought. Even if ya put it right in front of them would they use it? My 52 years and living all over this world would say "NO".

I'm not saying that.
I think we should pass taxes to build them personal stores so they only have to walk 100 yards or less no matter where they live.
oh, and they should all get free cars from a .gov program that allows better off people to turn in their not as wanted vehicles for a nicer one....oh wait a fucking second...they did that. cash for clunkers was an absolute FAILURE...not to mention they required crushing all the perfectly good vehicles. why didn't they just give them to these poor souls without a car and without the audacity to take a walk to get food.
stupid people make me sick. the gene pool needs chlorine.
maybe obama needs to hire another czar. he needs to hire me. my position will be to choose whether certain people are allowed to breed or not.
"my position will be to choose whether certain people are allowed to breed or not.
Change this to; "...choose whether certain people are allowed to BREATHE or not" and I'll support your new role.
To the board lefties; "I'm kidding...I'm f***** kidding...don't go all whiny and literal on my ass."

I'll leave that to my buddy. I will help though. we will systematically go through every inmate in the country. if his/her crime(s) are severe enough or the sentence is for life or more without the possibility of parole, and the evidence is absolutely clear, no questions asked, then yes, the right to breathe should be revoked.
if those fucking tree huggers want to save the planet we need to preserve some oxygen too!

that is one position people who are allowed to breed might enjoy! I don't want to take that away from them[LOL]
America is the richest country in the world. There is a fucking shitton of food here. Anyone who goes hungry in the U.S. is an idiot.
I grew up in the San Luis Valley the nearest fast food/major supermarket/anything was 45 miles away. that is a food desert[LOL]

I remember as a kid in Moab.
we had a tastee freeze.
Once a month or so we would drive to Grand Junction for a treat of Burger king if we were good.
Nowadays the crap is a staple of our diet instead of an exception.
and yes, my fat ass is as guilty as anyone else.

This whole article stinks of trying to classify everyone by a single standard-
which makes me suspect of the motive
notice that AK and HI are "no data available"
I know there are MANY places in Alaska that people don't have cars (they'd be worthless much of the time, anyway), and the nearest supermarket is literally 100s of miles away... some of them live a subsistence lifestyle...
how many taxpayer dollars paid for this study, and what's the %#@* point? One way or another, those in their situation have chosen it- if they don't like it, then in the words of Sam: "move to where the food is!"
