I know this is going to upset some of you, but I don't think I have ever seen a single film of his, not completely anyway. I was a deprived child I guess...

I'll probably upset the crowd even more by telling you that you're not missing out on anything at all. I always thought he was a lousy actor.

You know, funny, I was getting ready to ask if it is even really worth my time to go through the old films. [ROFL1]

The one thing I hated in True Grit was Glenn Campbell-what a miscast in my opinion. [Rant2]

he wasn't a lousy actor, he was a great actor.
"and starring as John Wayne, John Wayne!"
just like denzel washington and robert deniro. they don't play the role, they play themselves.

I like De Niro and Washington, The Duke always came off like a big clumsy oaf to me.
I'm more of an Eastwood fan.

I will upset the crowd also as I have no respect for him being to worried about his film career instead of joining the military during WWII. No respect. [Bang]

From the little I have seen of him, I really don't think you can compare him to either of those two. Again, I still haven't seen a complete movie of his, only maybe 1/4 of a few, but I was wondering if I missed something that I just didn't see in his films. From what I did see, I can say he wasn't as good of an actor as the two mentioned.

I was waiting for someone to chime in with this shit. Yea he is definitly a d-bag in my book for that cowardly shit.

Right you are Marlin. And the positive effect his movies had on the morale of our troops - especially during the Vietnam conflict more than made up for his never getting to serve.

That was a cop out. In '44 he was classified 2a, a month later the S.S. reclassified him 1a, shortly after his studio managed to get em switched back to 2a (his poor knee, or was it his back, or was a bad ear?) Kind of funny seeing how he use to pride himself on doing his own stunts. He was a draft dodger.

This/
He may have done this or that, but he pussied out and didnt serve because he was worried about his career. Screw him and his cowardice.
This is why I refuse to watch his movies and have a never enjoyed them

Instant revocation of your "Man Card" Spyder.
You can redeem by watching any 6 Marion Morrison movies back to back for 24 hours. You will get extra points for watching "The Quite Man".

This-
His work in Hollywood probably did just as much for moral and war efforts as any USO or Bond Drive. Just like Oblammy is the greatest gun salesman ever, the Duke is the greatest recruitment tool ever.
To Marion Morrison:

Damn, I just wanted to point out that I didn't care much for him. Didn't think anybody would go so far as to compare em to Obummer. [Coffee]

Wow, so because some feel he didn't do what he should he's been branded the same, or maybe even lower, than Jane Fonda. Maybe he didn't do all he could. He did contribute to the war effort making films, which is a helluva lot more than you can say about Hanoi Jane. Incidentally, he was IN Vietnam to make "The Green Berets" and supported the troops publically when all the slime here were calling service members baby killers and the like. Could he have done more? Maybe. But he did more than some.
Clark Gable joined because his wife had just died; she'd actually suggested it to him and he'd resisted the suggestion; and he only did 5 missions in a unit that was doing a movie. Henry Fonda, on the other hand, served on a destroyer as a Navy Enlisted troop. Both deserve respect for having served, as does Ronald Reagan.
