2007 F150 Blender Door HELP

Let's get it out of the way...I should have bought a Dodge, GMC or Chevy...right?

Best I can tell, reading on the net, the blender door in my 2007 F150 (w/electronic climate control) took a dump yesterday. This seems to be a systemic problem with Fords.

I called around this morning - the dealers are telling $400 - $500 and a smaller shop is telling me $500 - $1000 to fix.

Anyone here faced the same problem with thier F150 or Expedition? Can you recommend a good shop? What it cost out the door?

its called the blend door. its what directs heat or a/c to the various places. they go bad and it means taking the dash apart. not fun. the trick i remember from my dealership days was to drop the dash on your lap,change it and replace dash. its probably the same or similar with newer trucks. Oh and you bought the right truck.

don't worry it happens to old chevys (haven't heard about it on new ones). each brand has their own problems.

well they go bad on ALL of them. just be glad it not a jeep from 98-around 2004, they are alot more to fix.

Does it have automotice temp control? if so just run it through all the settings and make sure they all work, i have replaced a few of those this winter.
you can do a quick self test on it by turning the key on, have the temp control off.
puch the off and defrost at the same time then release and push the auto button. it will go through a self test of the system and will tell you if any codes are in the system.

to inspect the blend door operation. pull the radio and trim off. just inside to the right you will see the blend door motor and it has a rod sticking out of it going down into the blend door. look at that as you turn it from hot to cold and see if it moves. if it move and you get no heat, the door is broken.
I would have to assume that it does have coolant in it??

also if you want to save some $$ go talk to the folks at a automotive school down your way and see when they might get it in for you. they do not charge labor, just parts. also it may take some time to get it done because it would be a student working on it with an instructor looking over them.

before i do anything i would check the blend door motor first-its a heck of a lot easier to get to and cheaper to replace
what happens is the pin that goes into the door breaks-which is more common then the door breaking
we had scumbag service writers who would sell the blend door-motor and also say the heater box was broken-i would outright tell the customer that the writer was a lying sack of sh#t and all they needed was the motor
i still have those customers to this day:)

also try getting a shop manual-not a chillton or hayes-they can be realy useless in some tasks-but the ford workshop manual is by far your best bet
try your google fu and see if you can find one online

I can only relay my experience.
This is a very common problem on Jeep Grand Cherokees. The Jeep dealer wanted about
$1200. to do the job. On the Jeep they need to pull out the whole dash to fix. WTF!
They keep cheaping out on the parts they use and instead of using metal which can take the heat, they use plastic and over time the plastic becomes brittle and breaks.
If you Google 'blend door' you'll get more info than you ever wanted to know.
I found an online place that had a 'fix' for the Jeep. It entailed taking a Dremel and cutting a hole in the plastic duct work right where the blend door is located. Reach in and pull out the broken doors and hinge pin and install the new metal blend doors and pin.
So, for $85. and about an hours work, I got heat again.
BTW it was my daughters Jeep and she lives in Steamboat and went all last winter with no heat. Really felt good to finally get it working for her.
