So last summer I picked up a stripped receiver and thought I'd build the SBR I've always wanted. We'll see how long this process takes. I'll post up as progress happens, but here's the time line so far:

Dec 3rd Ordered Finger print cards and Citizen Verification forms online via US Gov site.

Dec 9th received forms.

Jan 1 Filled out my BATFE From 1 from the help of this site:

http://forum.pafoa.org/nfa-class-3-title-ii-34/20540-sbrd-ar15-brief-guide-my-experience.html

Jan 3rd printed out, front and back, two copies of Form 1, had passport photos taken during lunch break. Also mailed my stripped receiver off to Orion Arms for engraving services since the UPS store was doing my photos.

Jan 11 Paid $10 to Erie PD for fingerprinting services. Also received email from Orion Arms with a tracking number that my engraved receiver would arrive on the Jan 13.

Jan 12 Spoke with Boulder County Sheriffs assistant about mailing in my Form 1's for signature. She informed my of their own criminal background check they do before its reviewed by the Sheriff. (on a side note I had emailed the Sheriff directly about his NFA signing policy he replied to my email about an hour later telling me their procedure) Photos taped to the back of the Form 1's and mailed to Boulder County Sheriff.

More updates to come.

Looking forward to the updates. I have been thinking about doing an SBR build myself but not sure if it is worth all the hoops I would have to jump through.

Good luck! [Beer]

Update - Feb 1st received my two signed copies of the Form 1. Now to write the $200 check and mail it off.

As far as build plans I've got it specified as a 9mm and 5.56mm, this was to have some flexibility on the build. While I've got a box full of Magpul goodies I'm really tempted to do a SOCOM CQBR replica. Decisions, decisions.....

A Can? But of course!

The best thing to do now is forget all about it. It gets very frustrating waiting for the stamp to come back. You can't predict how long it's going to take.

Sorry with the negative waves.

173 days and trying not to count.

Here it is Two copies of signed Form 1's with passport photos attached, Citizen form, finger-print cards, and a check for $200 to BATFE.
All mailed out today. I intentionally started this so by this summer I can shop for my upper. Hard thing will be trying not to think about it until it comes back in the mail with my stamp! Tick......tick.....tick....tick........

Thanks for keeping me updated. I am watching this closely and with jealousy. I hear the Adams County sheriff is rather uncooperative in these matters. I may have to move soon.

Which is why I decided to do the poor man's SBR and do a pistol build. JMHO [Beer]

Whats with that Certification of Compliance with with 18 U.S.C. 922 form you sent in. I just sent in my form one a few weeks ago and I didn't send one of those in. I didn't read anything on thier site about need that to go with it. Oh those bastards.... they're going to reject my form arent they? ARGHHH. Oh well guess it will just take more time now.

Received a call today that my SBR paperwork was sent back with a missing Certification of Compliance.. I know I sent it in so they must have lost it (I have a copy), but basically I just need to fill out another, send it to them, and they said the Form 4 would be back in 2 weeks.. so should be no big deal if you forgot (or they lost it!)

Why not a Trust or LLC? LEO's don't need to know anyway.

It won't get "rejected" on a lack of Certification of Compliance. It will be approved but they will send you a letter saying you need to send it in and they will hold your form until they get it. It should only add mail time plus one or two days.

Haven't really looked into that route just yet. If I was to buy a SBR that was already registered would I have to send any paperwork through my local LEO or just file the proper paperwork with the ATF?
