[Rant1]
So - I discussed it with my boss and he said - "Sure - you can wait till the week after..."
[Flower]
Well - I was happy about that....

Watch the Super Bowl ? [ROFL1]
Buy stuff cheaper than you can get it here. Clothes and shoes are pretty cheap. Pearls are usually a pretty good bargain. Beware the Soju.

[ROFL1] Stay as far away from the border as possible. Try not to get shot, bombed, or knifed. Try not to get tyfus, dengue fever, malaria, japanese encephalitis, brucellosis, cholera, giardiasis, hepatitis A or B, trachoma, or leptospirosis. Those are just the easy things to get. Um, just stay inside and pack all of your own food and water. You should be fine then. Oh, pack your hazmat suit also.

In Seoul, go to the Itaewon. It's actually a district in the city, but there's a lot there. Western restaurants, bars, shops, all sorts of stuff.
The DMZ isn't too far north; although whether you want (or can) go there right now is another story...
You may hear different, but I'd stay away from the street carts, if you run across any. Not only because you don't want to bring home a Korean bug, but also becasue there's not much difference in Korean between beef on a skewer, and dog on a skewer. No, I'm not kidding...
Soju is the Korean national drink, other than beer. It isn't like booze here, there are no quality controls on it...one batch may be 20 proof, and the next 100. I don't think it really tastes like anything, but it sure hurts the next day!

2 - gallon jars of real Kim chi and a case of the country's finest beer, forgot the brand name, and watch the rebroadcast of the superbowl.
It will be an event you will never forget.

You got it.
"...the country's finest beer, forgot the brand name,..."
"OB Beer"...And Captian Q rum....can't forget the "Q"...And Soju...LOL...better yet...real "Jungle Juice!"
OP: Cut a long weekend, maybe 5 days minimum and head South to Cheju [Jeju-do Island], its sweet. The West coast has many unique communities and beaches with some cultural significance if you embed a bit. Seoul's cool but...get out of the metro areas to experience Korea. Married or not, the whores and the "Ville" will bore ya' in short order if your not careful.

Heck, I think some of the beer has (or at least had) formaldehyde in it. Some of that stuff was terrible....

Its a BS "GI rumor" encountered and propogated by many, including me and my peers (and most likely some others on this board :) ) in jest, over many years and in many locales across the planet, not just the ROK. net- That's Horse-shit! [Tooth]
No doubt that "somewhere, some place" that "product mix" has occured but...nah...its not common-place nor has that ever been commercial practice. That said, I'll answer that I "have heard" that was true as a concern with Korean rice beers produced in the 40's through the early 60's. Wink...wink...nod...nod...get hammered on "what ya' got!" Better rumor and conjecture would be served by BS'ing about amphetamine's versus embalming fluid in the Far East IMO.
