Back in the fall I got pulled over doing 64 in a 55 zone. Late for a doc appointment. The cop wrote it as 64 in a 50 zone and was a real heavy. I meekly pointed the speed limit was 55 and it was obvious I'd be in real trouble if I said it twice so I signed it. I've lived there in NW Douglas county for years and know the speed zones.

Today was my trial. I had maps, pictures of neighbors by the 55 signs with statements from them it had been 55 forever. I met with him before and he wasn't having any of it so it went to the judge. I seriously kissed ass and offered to let him write me up with a new and fair ticket. The judge found for me and threw it all out. I paid nothing.

The cop left insisting he knew the speed zones and was real pissed off. I hope I never run into him again. If I disappear from this board you'll know what happened.

+ 1 for the little guys,
And congratulations. You need to immediately trade in you car and throw out your tags. Get another car and have it registered under your wife's name or a close family member, someone WILL be looking for you and your car.

Maybe I should will my cannon to CO-ARF.

Seriously, you do have to stand up sometimes and not be life's bitch.

I'm getting used to dealing with authorities. A developer tried to sneak in a reservoir just west of my neighborhood. The dam would be over 200 feet high with its base about 50 feet above and several 100 yards from my place. The whole neighborhood and others downstream have been at county meetings for a couple of months with more to go. If it goes in I'll have to buy flood insurance and have a house I can't give away. It has been funny to see life long Republicans and Libertarians suddenly care about that stupid jumping mouse or whatever will work.

Steve, good for you!! Nice to see the little folks win at least once in while. From now on you had better consider only transporting that BP cannon securely covered with a tarp of some type.

What agency did the officer work for? Asking for curiosity's sake...

Douglas County Sheriff.

I sincerely hope I never see him again. With any luck he'll cool down and get on with the rest of his life. From the way he was acting I have visions of him out there right now sawing down the 55 signs. I was surprised it ended up in a trial. I was quite ready to let him rewrite the ticket, sign and pay.

Nah. If you are right, you are right and should stand up for yourself. It is admirable to be willing to accept a lower speed citation, but he needs to be aware of the speed limits and zones if he is going to run traffic.

Congrats, by the way!

Damn shame. One bad cop ruins it for all the decent ones.

I agree. Most are honest and hard working folk doing a tough and thankless job. My son ran into a bad one in the Springs a few years ago and it cost me a bundle on a lawyer but I still believe, in the US, most are good and decent.

Aurora PD was actually kinda cool with me today.

I hit, of all things... a rolling Christmas Tree. [Eek3]

He had stopped to get the tree out of the highway, saw me pulled over and came up to check on me.

+1 for good guys

Hitting something moving in the street should be covered under comprehensive instead of collision. Just so you know.
