View Full Version : What is the "Denver Tax" that is being taken out of my paycheck?
I did a Google search, but didn't come up with anything. Completely independent from the Federal, State, Social Security, and Medicare tax is a Denver Tax.
I can't believe that Denver thinks so highly of itself that they think they can tax me to work in that shit hole. Has anyone else noticed this on their paychecks? I need to get a real job asap. I'm so angry right now.
I'll get a picture of it up later. I only made $300 this paycheck. The $5.75 Denver Tax taken out of it is a big deal to me. I'm trying very hard not to fill this thread with obtuse swearing.

Welcome to working in Denver. Its a head tax used to pay for things like sewer and garbage pickup, because you know that working down here, you did create both items for them to deal with.
Found some information about it. They call it the OPT, for "Occupational Privilege Tax."
I'm really doing my best to not swear a lot right now. I guess Denver and Aurora do this. If you make more than $500 a month working in Denver, you get charged $5.75 a month. I don't know how long this has been in effect, but if I were a business, I'd RUN to another area as fast as I could. Thanks for passing the buck to me employer.

Yup, my work is based out of Omaha NE, but I pay denver tax. I live in Morrison...not denver. I guess someone needs to pay for those free lunches at the schools.[Rant1]

I guess EVERY where in Ohio does this. Politicians make me sick to my stomach.

I am sick of TAX TAX TAX TAX TAX TAX TAX
didn't our forefathers fight a war to get away for excessive taxation?
Cell phone tax, income tax, social security tax, tax on your social security, income tax, property tax, fuel tax, excise tax, capital gains tax, investment tax, health care tax.
One has to wonder about the motivations of people out to get politicians.
I DO NOT agree with the means by any measure.
I do not assume to know Loughner's motives.
just saying maybe some people are so taxed they cannot give anymore.
Gotta pay for dem programs..
What is worse it that Aurora charges an occupational privilege tax...
Scary but true, Colorado ranks 48th in overall tax burden...and I find OUR taxes to be stifling and ridiculous...

That was six years ago, I would like to see how much the numbers have jumped in that relatively small time frame
Aren't they "fees"? There are no taxes in Colorado, Billy told me so. Come on, keep it straight.

Me?, Hell no. I just like the comedy value of the former Gov. I mean heck, now we know why he was so gung ho for higher education funding, So he could get his $300,000 gig at UNC..
You have to find humor in this stuff, or else all hope is lost..

Its interesting too, we've lost recent hires too because they found out how much it costs to park down town. I guess they took the job hoping for cheap parking or the state paying for it, NOT!
For several yeas, I worked downtown, but our billing/payroll department was in Golden, so I never paid the taxes. I did pay parking though, when nobody else did. Now that the entire department is downtown, everyone is paying the Denver Tax and Parking. Interesting to hear everyone bitching about it. Welcome to my world.
Can't wait for that light rail to get finished, hopefully no more parking fees for me.

I have not "lost hope"; I've lost patience, long...long ago, with Fed, State and Local fiscal policy and financial management practices [or lack thereof]. I'll say it again; until there is "blood on Main Street" over an extended period of time the gross monetary ass-rape of good Americans by the Political Class will continue unabated. This will not be resolved at the ballot box as we would all hope but...I don't think we have the balls (<-- includes me) as a people to do a damn thing, we'll keep taking it in the tail for years to come.

My EXACT sentiments. I get irritated when people call the French pussies. They put on a strike over the retirement age increase. We just sit around and bitch about stuff between commercials.
Gnihcraes: I had the choice between a 40 hour a week job at $12/hr and a 20 hour a week job at $12.89/hr. I took the 20 hr job because the full time one was located on 16th street mall.
I already have a no front plate ticket that I won't pay from Denver. I laughed when I saw they wanted $75 for what was a $25 ticket, that I gladly paid, a few years ago. Now they've taken me to collections and think I owe them $190. Yeah right, I'll NEVER pay them. I can't even go down there unless I park in a garage. All the garages that used to be $5 are now $20.

Yup, been paying that "it is a privilege to work in Denver, and you are lucky we let your sorry ass work here" fee for just over 5 years now. Fortunately I get paid monthly so I only get hit once a month, as opposed to twice or even four times. Did I mention I hate Denver?
Well, the "good" thing about working at CLP is a long time ago, they asked if there was any place I didn't want to go. I said Denver. So far I haven't done any work there since.

Yep, couple years ago parking was "reasonable" then the RTD strike hit, all the parking lots jumped their price by $5.00 or more.
Get this: I park at a private lot, pay my monthly fee via credit card. No late fees etc. If my sun shade is blocking the hang tag, I get a ticket from them for no hang tag. So I have to protest to them and prove I'm a legit customer. I've had to do this several times, they actually made threats to me that this cannot happen anymore or they'll not allow me to be their customer anymore. ?? So, the same car, same parking space, 5 years in a row, the lot attendant can't figure out I'm a paid customer every day? WTF.
Also, one of the "Parking Tickets" didn't get cleared like promised. I get a notice to collections. I go to the main office of the parking company, the lady says "Ok, let me clear it from the collection company database".
The a-holes are the same company. They sell parking, write everyone tickets, and then have their own 2nd company do the collections for 10x the amount owed. I guess I'm mad because I didn't think to set up a business to rip people off like they have.
C'Mon light rail... f-these parking people. (private and government)

ya...i think official its englewood
Fortunately it is only a once a month charge. You bet I'll check every single pay stub from now on though.
So taxing 500 people for one year comes out to over $34,000. How many people do you think are subject to this tax? I bet enough to pay for an entire, or few, department's salaries.
bunch of bullshit that is. sorry you have to pay that Irving.
I hate taxes with a passion. I would like to know what my overall tax burden is. after getting taxed on my income, then on the things I buy, the services I use, the vehicles I drive etc etc etc. the list goes on. I just wonder how much more money I would have if it weren't for most of the bullshit taxes.
