my farthest confirmed kill on a coyote today. 612yds with a 223, no range compensating reticles, no target knobs, just old fashioned kentucky windage. i have now killed dogs at 612yds, 582yds, 498yds, and a whole pile between 275 and 325.
223 doesnt have much power at that range, but this sleeping dog got up and ran only about 70yds before falling over dead.

I am sure it did. The wife shoots her SAR3 at 600 yards. Yes, they are all over the target but she has had a few "X's" along the way and by the crack they are still SS. [Neene3]

612 is about the same as shooting 1100 yards with a .308. It's possible but the gods of shooting and coyote hunting have to be on the same page and the both have to really like you. Like more than friends like you...

camera was on the seat of the truck, but a picture of a dead dog is just a picture of a dead dog. that and i dont know how to upload pictures here, it always says the file is too large.
luck? maybe some, but i have done it several times now.

we are just messing with you. don't worry, I believe it. I have taken p-dogs that were pretty dumb out to 500 yards before with mine.

How do you spot a sleeping dog @ 600 yards? Must have been out in the drilled wheat or something huh? Thats a pretty damn good eye, not to mention the shot.

jim, you know you can't even see more than 300 yards, even with a scope! [ROFL2]

the trick is to go out early when they are moving slow, use some parking lot orange spray paint then go back to your gear. 9 am and they are glowing like my ex at Chernobyl.
