I just recently opened a FB account because , recently because I am anti-social but an old Army buddy passed away and I was urged to get one to contact others etc.
Well I had people find me like a good friend from High School and family members etc.
Well my nightmare(not really), just knew it would happen eventually, an old Ex from High School tried to send a friend request!
Debated it out of curiosity for a bit then decided to go with the block route.
Nice to see her and she looks like she did back in the 80's but I dont even want to find out more. That means she must have been actively looking for me! Welllll who could blame her. One taste of this guys charm and the memories linger!![Tooth]
Anyone else run into this situation?

facebook is funny like that. You really run in to some people from ages ago, and plenty of exs...

Nope, I like the privacy functions. You can control what people see. I've had a few ex's try to contact me, but just remember, "they are ex's for a reason"!

Besides, I'm HAPPILY married to a wonderful woman now, so why would I even want to talk to an "old flame" or bring up past relationships? I know I'd be mad/dissapointed/etc is she friended a past boyfriend.

I do have a FB account but no face on it, no one knows who I am. Cept my family.

Single greatest thing I ever did is to delete my FB account.

And you can't just quit using it or "disable" it, you have to jump through some annoying hoops to actually DELETE your account.

I've never used FB since they do make it difficult to protect privacy. A fellow at my company had a talking to since he trash talked work and thought he'd blocked it but hadn't.

I'm a private person and prefer to let people know about me as I see fit, not broadcast it to the world. My wife joined FB to keep in touch with her kids and immediately had some old boyfriends wanting to be 'friends'.

I might have to join one day but if so I'll lie like hell, home schooled, home colleged, unemployed and so on.

I've no desire to "Facebook" or "Twitter". People from my past are in my past for reason and I have no desire to know them. Even people I went to school with etc.
Don't care where you have been.
Don't care what job you have.
Don't care who you married/divorced.
Don't care how many kids you have.

Leave me the hell alone!

Both my kids have FB and it causes them nothing but problems with girlfriends and such. My youngest had a girlfriend whose dad looked at his FB and forbid the girl to see him after reading lyrics my kid had from a song on there.
Stupid.
Not to mention prospective and current employers checking up on employees personal lives on FB.
I just don't understand why people feel the need to put their life out on the web like that. Do we not get enough attention in our day to day life so we get home and plaster the days events and lives online?
Pathetic.

Fraternity initiation would have been absolutely weird. The point is that it is nobody's business and I'm not going to help some young punk billionaire get richer by selling my info.

I've had some dear friends I've lost touch with I wouldn't mind knowing about but it ain't worth it. I'm just not into nostalgia. Life today is more fun than living in the past so they can stay there. I also have some people I'd rather never hear from again. A couple ex-girlfriends who were a bit nutty. If my ex has remarried, it was probably to Satan and the chance to avoid ever hearing from her is worth avoiding FB.

I found the only people on FB I was actually still friends with I still talk to and see so there isn't really any point. The rest are people I didn't want to see or talk to again in the first place.

The privacy thing with Facebook is really simple to figure out.

DO not put anything on there you don't want all over the place.
You cannot unring a bell.

This, pretty much all they may find out about me is how many slot machines I need for my casinos in mafia wars..

I have found a few friends that I lost track of over the years, most of the time when I "talk" to them it's via pm's.

Just happened: a junior high classmate from 25 years ago and from the other side of the world.
Never had anything with her but she is blond and tall and the wife would not understand...
I am going to have to block her, but she was actually a good friend.
Oh well,my wife is a good girl, is the least I can do for her...

I haven't the time to worry about WTF's goin on in everybody else's life, nor do I have the desire to share what goes on in mine. If we haven't been touch for years past, there's probably a reason for that. I don't even have an account.

That's pretty much my take on "social networking".

it doesn't even have to be facebook.

i joined classmates.com, actually looking for a high school buddy whom i have lost contact with. next thing i know my ex is sending me messages.

nothing inappropriate and i am sure that she meant well and was just looking to be friendly, but we had a nine year relationship. long story short my wife now of 13 years deserves more than she and i told her politely to have a nice life.

i do not have a facebook page. i don't like their privacy policy (oh wait that would imply they have one) i have been told that my business would benefit from a social networking site. i started a linkedin site, but have yet to really see the benefit of it.

i hate facebook. my wife created my account. at first it was interesting seeing all the people i hadn't talked to in years. then I would remember why i still didn't talk to them. I have the midset that if I don't talk to you a bit, or call you on the phone or text or see you, then i don't really worry about it.

i did have 1 ex keep bugging me to meet up for lunch and always see how things were going. pretty much stopped when my status changed to engaged, then married[ROFL1]

although, i am sure later on in life that doesn't stop some of the women out there.
