Saiga 12 gurus in the area

Anyone know of a good machinist-type guy in the Colorado Springs/Denver area that could help me pinpoint my Saiga 12 problem?

It is about 98% but just needs a few minutes of tweaking to get it running right. I've tried every brand of mag, polished the bolt, sent it to Cadiz to have the gas ports drilled right... etc, etc. There is one place that could use a small tig weld to help the shells feed, and 2 places that might possibly need to be slightly shaped.

who's conversion did you use on your saiga? is the problem FTF FTE or both?

I used parts from CarolinaShooterSupply, with Tromix modified Tapco hammer, Tapco forearm, folding stock... hogue grip.

about 97% of the time it's FTFeed and the other 3 is a stovepipe FTE. I've polished the top of the hammer and bottom of the bolt. It cycles by hand awesome, and occasionally cycles a whole mag fine. But especially when I quick fire it will lock up. Most of those times the bolt is about 3/4" from closing, and I have to eject the mag to get the bolt unstuck. I have a Tromix heavy hitter in it.

what ammo? how did it run before the conversion? I used the same kit from them and mine runs flawless, but I broke mine in, in factory trim.

Are you having problems when you are using low brass ammo? I broke mine in stock form as well before converting it.

The only thing I did add was a MD Arms V-Plug (https://www.mdarms.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=13_11&products_id=16). It made a big difference when I wanted to shoot the cheap ammo.

I polished my bolt to have it cycle better as well.

Before the conversion it did not work at all. I first sent it to Cadiz and they drilled the ports for free... when I got it back I assumed it should work and went ahead and installed the conversion kit - I don't think that is the problem.


I've tried several types of ammo. The shorty Federal bulk pack are the ones that occasionally get the front caught on the back of that top guide thing that guides it into the chamber.

I've tried Sellior & Bellot buckshot, winchester buck, winchester xpert high velocity bird shot, winchester slugs, and a couple others I can't think of right now. I have the gunfixr plug in, it's definitely getting enough gas. I run low brass on 3 and high brass on lower numbers. I have a King Armory tappet. I've thought about trying the MD v-plug but I don't think I need more gas... I've tried buckshot on 3 just to see, and same thing happens... it just kicks harder while malfunctioning. I'm leaning into the stock too.
