Looking for a good GPS. I used to have a Garmin Vista a few years ago and thought it was pretty good. It was one I had in 2004 and sold it around 2008.

Looking for some opinions on what people like, user friendliness, brands, and what they think is the best and has the most functions?

Thanks,

Kev

I thought about the phone thing, but I really don't like that idea for use as a GPS unit

i wouldnt consider the phone, it only works with service, but if you have service its super good, with current google maps

My thoughts as well. I also want something durable for backpacking, camping, etc.

A GPS is a good, useful tool, but I would be wary of relying on one in a survival situation, as the .gov controls the system, and can screw with it in a number of different ways. That being said, they are great for backpacking or motorsports. My best luck has been craigslist or ebay, but sometimes you can find deals locally.

I am very confident with a map and compass. Just looking for a quality system for backpacking, but not my failsafe, and curious what systems people like

Check out the Garmin Rino 530 HCx. I haven't been able to drum up the funds for one yet, but from what I understand, they are extremely bad ass. And if you aren't into the walkie talkie thing, check out the GPSMAP 60CSx. I know a few guys that have them and they all say they are the greatest thing since the Paris Hilton sex tape. [Flower]

I like the 60CSx for sure. I saw a ton of great prices on Amazon
