View Full Version : CHP.. Primary and backup?
Curious,
CHP (concealed handgun permit) is clear, handgun only.
But does this mean one handgun? Or could one carry a BUG as well with this permit?
Always wondered, anyone have any clear idea?
Carry as many concealed as you can or want to...

The reference to the handgun is only the type of weapon. Prior to the shall issue CCW statutes, the discretionaary statutes said concealed weapon. Thus the now repealed statutes referred to other weapons beyond a handgun. Knife, b-nucks, num-chuck, etc.
be thankful you are not in OK. Unless changed, it used to be that handgun was a semi (pistol), revolver or derringer. I you took your class with a semi (pistol) you could carry any type. If the revolver, then only the revolver and the derringer. If the derringer, then only the derringer.
Nevada blows as well, if you take your qualification with a semi, you may only carry THAT semi, but if you qualify with a revolver, you can carry any revolver. The weapons you qualify with are listed on your permit, and you are in violation if you carry any gun not listed.
Here in Colorado, you can carry any handgun you want. In some states, you must register exactly which gun you want to carry, then you can only carry that one.
In addition, many other states specify where on your person you may carry (ankle holsters are a no no in NM, as is pocket carry). It definitely pays to know what your carry restrictions are BEFORE you enter a jurisdiction.
I wonder if you can open carry on your ankle in NM...
Why would ankle and pocket carry be an issue? Do they want carry guns to be as uncomfortable as possible? In the pocket is my main carry, because its the most comfortable with a small gun, and I dont have to wear a jacket, or a long shirt. I think ankle carry sucks just because access, and retention while running are issues. I dont believe anyone wants their piece flinging across the cement. Do they want to be able to spot people with CHP's? Whats next, "you have to wear hunter orange while carrying"?

Quit Giving them more stupid Ideas!
In a Stunning move Senator Fearmonger(D) today announced new National gun control legislation that would require all concealed weapons carriers to wear hunter orange vests and hats with "CONCEALED WEAPON" in large black Block letters across the front and back of Both. This legislation is being hailed by authoritarian law enforcement officers saying , "We should be the only ones with Guns, But since we cannot circumvent the constitution at this time, this is a step in the right direction."
The Senator introduced the legislation earlier today after fears of armed citizens roaming the streets un-governed surfaced following a post by jess357 on the radical pro second amendment site co-ar15.com

Dunno...NM has done a lot of retarded sh!t concerning CCW. They no longer honor Utah permits, even though the Utah permit requirements are more stringent. Unless it changed recently, you can't carry ANYWHERE alcohol is sold for consumption on premise (even restaurants that serve beer). You can only carry one handgun at any time, and it must be in a holster(no ankle holsters).
Edit: Carry in restaurants that are licensed to sell alcohol under the following conditions:
(b) a restaurant licensed to sell only beer and wine that derives no less than sixty percent of its annual gross receipts from the sale of food for consumption on the premises, unless the restaurant has a sign posted, in a conspicuous location at each public entrance, prohibiting the carrying of firearms, or the person is verbally instructed by the owner or manager that the carrying of a firearm is not permitted in the restaurant
How one is supposed to know the percentage of income derived from alcohol sales is beyond me. This is a felony in NM.
They know how much is made from alcohol. They do the same stuff here. You can smoke indoors if you make a certain amount of your money from tobacco sales.

In Clark county (Las Vegas) I had to qualify with each semi and each revolver. Like said its listed on your CCW and you have to have the blue card (registration card) for each firearm with you.
