I just purchased a Rock Island 1911 Officers model. I pick it up Sunday. I'm kind of excited about it because I have never owned a 1911. Have any of you guys ever owned a Rock Island. I've been reading the reviews and they seem to do fairly well for a less expensive 1911. Thoughts??

Rock Island makes a pretty decent gun. Congrats!

RI makes a decent 1911- Philippine manufacture-Standard 1911 parts interchange readily.
I have built up a couple of pretty nice 1911's for guys that turned out to be good shootin irons.

I just bought one last week.
Im happy with it. Thought about spending a little more on a Springfield but did not want something I would have to be to careful with.
I wanted something reasonably priced, rugged and compatible with aftermarket parts.
I picked it up at Big R and of course after I bought it that day the mail man delivered a coupon for 10% off any purchase![Rant1]
To bad it only comes with one mag and thats about it!
Glad I got it.
Mine is beat slide got rusted but stil shoots

I think I got a fair deal. It is new in the box, set of custom grips, original grips, nice holster, and a box of shells for $400 bucks. I can't wait to shoot it.

I like the RI frames to start with. They allow one that is not hung up on a name to build a very nice pistol for not much cash and it will have what ya want. I was about $550 into my last one. :)

Everyone remembers their first 1911....... [Coffee]
My first 1911 to shoot was a stock Colt Government model, series 70. The first one that I owned was a Colt Gold Cup Series 80. Both in the only caliber g-d intended the 1911 to be.... 45ACP!

My first 1911 was a Colt. I couldn't hit anything with it. It was one of the few guns I ever sold. Fast forward twenty years I decided I wanted a 1911 just to have one. I ended up with a RIA. I have had no problems with it and it shoots a lot better than I can. I can shoot it a lot better than my first Colt for some reason.
Have fun.

I loved my Colt, but they require a lot of work to be accurate and shoot well. I own a Springfield TRP now and all have to say is that it is the most accurate 45 I have ever owned.

Well I grew up on dads 1911 but my first ones were the 30 I signed for in my first arms room in SHAPE Belgium back in 82.
Did ya know that as easy as a 1911 is that 90% of Military doctors could take them apart but not put them back together? [Bang][Rant2][Coffee]
