That article was confusing to read.

It makes it sound like they're just going to "pick one" on March 30th.

What happened to the XM8? H&K was/did build a factory near Ft. Benning to manufacture, the variants were all worked out. Seemed like a really slick solution. I'd really like to play around with an IMI Tavor

The Tavor is really sexy.

Where'd you get that picture? The barrel looks weirdly long, like a US import...

The Google. It seems there are several barrel variations on it, ranging down to barrels barely past the front handguard.

it's weird.. When the Iraq invasion began. The army were using mixed m16's and m4's carbine. and marines used m16a2's which designed for distance field battle. And most battles in Iraq were in the city. And now today, Most marines and army are using m4 in afghanistan what is the point ? M4 is weak, doen't have a lot of stopping power and doesn't go far as the m16 barrel.[Bang]. Or just up grade the 556 into 6.8 at least..

I was hoping someone had a super secret US imported one. Plans to import it keep falling apart. :(

Wouldn't a US legal G18 be...a G17? [ROFL1]

I was talking about the semi-auto Civilian Tavor.

FN Scar would be better.

MAJOR +1 on XM8. Private contractors who have used them in Iraq have nothing but high praises.

SOCOM recalled the 5.56 and only the 308 are being issued if I remembered it correctly.

When I look at the XM8, I'm reminded of Body of Lies.

"Our enemy has realized that they are fighting guys from the future."

You may have mistaken a G36 for XM8. I cannot remember if they use XM8 in that movie...

XM8 design team (HK USA) have access to HK G36 blueprint obviously.

I'm referencing the "from the future" quote. It looks like a space rifle.

What do any of these systems do that can't be done with the current AR platform?

Seems to me like a big ole waste of money.

So nostalgic. Reminds me of my conversations with my dad who insists on being buried with an M1 Garand and called me a wuss for carrying a plastic toy from Mattel.

The federal government is so good at one thing that no one else in the world can compete. They print and spend money. If some of that waste buys a better weapon and makes our troops more effective and is able to save a trooper's life, so be it.
