View Full Version : Another Dog DNA Contest

I got another DNA test kit for one of my other dogs. I thought the last contest was fun, so I'm doing it again!

I have a feeling that this dog is going to be easier to guess. I expect 2 breeds to get lots of guesses. Here's how I'll do it: I'll send in the kit tomorrow, and should get the results in about 2 weeks. The results may only show 2 breeds, or 4-5 (certainly not a pure-breed). Whoever has the most accurate guess of the breeds in her DNA wins. Tie will go to the first post with the closest guess. Winner will get a pre-owned, already broken-in, (used but functional) metal 30-round AR mag, plus whatever bonus crap I can fit in the box, shipped USPS.

Details on the test can be seen at www.BioPetVetLab.com (http://www.BioPetVetLab.com) . No guarantee they're right, but they seemed pretty close last time. Their results are final, even if they're ridiculous.

Here's the dog. She's about 13.

My guess is Shepherd, Lab, Pitbull.

Is she muscley, or is she chunky?

In a couple pics, she is chunky, but it's over a very muscley frame. Her back legs are arthritic now, but she can still "press" herself onto the couch with just her front legs/chest. Hope that helps.

Definitely some pit in there in the face. That last picture is great with the tongue sticking out. Not trying to steal any answers, but I would have guessed pit and lab

Pit/Lab... don't care about winning as I don't have an AR-15 (yet), just wanted to guess.

We should do my dog sometime... I know there's Boxer in there and most people say he's pure... but I can see other dogs in him for sure. It'd be nice to know for sure.

Is she muscley, or is she chunky?

For specific's sake, what kind of Shepherd?

I couldn't fathom a guess.

Wow - if you can find out what Molly is, you may have a winner...

I figured those would be the 2 most common guesses - you're not stealing. I think this might be won on the lower-percentage breeds (remember my other dog had Schnauzer in him), so add some breeds to your guesses!

Yellow Lab, Bull Terrier and a less than 5% of Bernese Mountain. Not even remotely close but...screw-it, that's my line.

I did this with one of our dogs (my gal's dog officially). Couldn't stand it anymore, great friggin' little beast, had to know "exactly what the hell is this critter" so...we had her DNA tested a few years back. Ended-up with a Beagle, Golden Retriever mix with a "trace percentage" of Brittany (she has very little resemblence to a Beagle, we also have a full-blooded Beagle female). Fun stuff.

Good thread...free bump...

Looks similar to our big guy who is Shar-Pei and Bull Mastiff. Yours might have some Shepard or similar due to the ears. Maybe some Lab

50% pit, 25% yellow lab, 9.37% Rosie O'Donnell, 6.25% golden retriever, 6.25% German Shepherd, 3.12% Morgan Freeman. I might be off on the golden.
Oh, them's Fightin' words!

I thought there would be more interest... OK - I'll throw in a bunch more free crap. In addition to the mag, winner gets:
-Blazer 3-9x50 scope;
-an NcStar Tactical 4 reticle sight in box;
-used Bushnell red-dot (ACOG wannabe);
-used set of cheap 1" rings;
-new set of Weaver 1" rings and bases for a Savage 110;
-railed gas block;
-stock AR pistol grip;
-Bianchi Ranger No. 5 holster;
-double mag pouch (pistol - .45 I think) w/ ALICE clips;
-TAG light holster (fits Surefire, etc);
-strange old canvas sling;
-Mossberg cable lock.

Anyone else want to guess?

She looks like my dog, Sadie. She is almost 3. We did DNA on her. Answer below...

The DNA results came back as Bulldog, Papillon and Cairn Terrier. Papillon, really?!

Not confident that the vet or the lab mis-labeled the sample.

So, to answer the guess...Bulldog, Papillon and Cairn Terrier!! [Tooth]

Would not have guessed Papillon - Hell, I didn't even know what one was until I did a Google search. That's worse than the Schnauzer that was uncovered in my last dog. I guess you never know what's lurking in the bloodlines of a mutt. I agree - Sadie does have some similarities. Sweet looking girl!

Some cool guesses so far. My wife is convinced the DNA test will label our dog a Pig, due to the pig ear she ate a few hours before the test [ROFL1]

First off - these results are ridiculous, and I gotta assume BS. Having said that, here they are:

Dalmatian - 20-36%
Shetland Sheepdog - 20-36%
Dachshund - 10-19%
Italian Greyhound - 10-19%
Miniature Pinscher - 10-19%
Rottweiler - 10-19%

I have no F*#@ing idea how the lab came up with those breeds - I always figured mostly Lab/Pit. Regardless, there they are.

Only 2 correct breeds were guessed (rottie and sheepdog). Ryan Th3 K1d had sheepdog in his guess, and the report shows more sheepdog than rottie, so I think he gets it. PM me your address, and I'll mail your box-o-crap.

Dachshund my ass.[Bang]

Yeah - I dunno. The last test for the other dog seemed to make sense. These just plain don't.

I wonder what the results would be if I sent blood sample of my pitbull or border terrier in..... They'd probably come as some crazy mutt mix, and I know those dogs are not mutts. I could care less about being a "registered with X canine club" paperwork, but they're not mutts. hahahaha
