View Full Version : AK47 Build Party Interest?
Ok after seeing the build threads on ar15.com and here, a few buddies and i are interested in a build also. problem is we know nothing about how to actually build it.
My friend has an automotive repair/performance shop and he's willing to host it there on a weekend. There are basic automotive tools in the shop like a drill, press, welder, etc.
We need someone willing to assist and guide us through the build. And looking for somone that has a jig for the flats.
Anyone on here ready for another build???
I'd be down for a build. If I can find a good deal I'll be picking up a kit at Tanner this weekend. I haven't built one before, though.
Building one is harder than you think if it's your first build.... but you learn so much... it's facinating... i know how my ak actually works and everything that makes it tick.... it's possibly the simplest gun yet i never knew how complicated it really was till i built one.... I think it's turned out to be a success but i gotta give it a final test fire at the range to be sure....
Willyswagon hosted a AK build party, he might be able to help you guys out :) he knows lots of people, and he knows lots on the ak build himself...
I personally ran into lots of problems when building my ak... probobly all the probs you could ever run into LOL... if you have any questions feel free to ask me, i'll let you know what i can... cause i surley learned allot. Also a tip, dont worry to be forcefull at times... somtimes its the only way especially when making the barrel fit to your trunion... hehe

You just explained the reason that I want to build my own. It's the same reason that I want to build my AR when I get around to getting one of those. Learning how to shoot these things is easy. Learning the intrinsic details of how they operate takes a little more effort but it's great knowledge to have.
is there a reason all the builds have been down in the springs? is the owner of the jig located in the springs?
well i'm up for another build i could come and show you guys kinda what to do :)

I'm interested and Denver area is alot closer to me (FC) than Springs.
All I really need to start is the flat, right?
I've got some machinist experience and am very mechanical.

yea im in for the build i wanna build my yugo underfolder
I don't think I have ever made a yugo. I think I need a better look at the trunnions of one of those before I can build a jig for it.
I believe the m64 is a milled receiver. You need to buy a repair section or I have seen someone weld on a flat receiver. I also say a guy that milled the receiver section down and made "trunnions" to fit in the folded flats.

All of the cool people live down here, there is hardly anything left but assholes in the "big city" ;) ;) ;)
I'm chickenshit to live fire my Romy G build, maybe with a long string tied to the trigger and someone else pulling on it :)
Don't be chickenshit about firing your AK. If it is made completely half assed it won't fail on the first shot anyway it will fall apart during the break in period. I know I've done that way. Turns out I didn't heat treat the receiver.

im gonna get the repair sections from a guy called vz58 he specializes in yugo kits
I'm intrested for sure .... What all do I need?
What do you have so far?
You need a; parts kit, reciever flat, rivets, files, bending jig just for the basics. Some people have made it much more complicated.

I would be interested. It sounds like a very interesting and fun way to go... and also with prices up so much and nothing available, a much more affordable way to go.
Well, if you guys are truly interested, there's a bit of stuff here, including a nice kit;

I was looking at that kit. Installing a barrel is above my skill level but I have seen it done.
Hi DOC-
Naw, not above your skill level, lol. It is very easy. I use a 2" piece of angle iron and a rubber mallet and a "C" clamp. Not the "normal" or accept4ed way to go, but works just fine. I put the muzzle brake on the end and just start pounding. It takes a bit, but works great and one advantage over the press or a screw is that if you misalign or something, you can see it quick and fix it. I ruined a barrel and a trunnion with a press and scored a barrel with a screw thingy, so I've used the mallet ever since and have built or helped build about 15 aks by now. You can do it.

p.s.-the amd is a little different than the romys, but no harder. And I used Romanian barrels for all kits I've done except one. Oh, and one pistol build I helped a guy with. That one was a nightmare, though. Probably just me.
Anyways, the amd is all matching, hand picked with a tapco (sorry) receiver flat. But they work just fine. When I feel a little better latter on today I will post the measurements for everything. The kit also has all the rivets, so it is a good deal. You can get a barrel from Apex. Even though they don't have any on their website, there is one on gunbroker for a "buy it now" for $75.00, which is what they charge anyways. Colorado Gun Sales also has some, but I think they want around $100.00 for them.

i have my yugo and am getting the plates but i will buy a romy and make it fr the build i am trying to open the link and runnin into some trouble but wanna check it out
I'd be up for it.
I've got a Romy parts kit, compliance parts, and receiver. Just never done it. Doesn't look that hard, but I dont' have the torch to heat treat the rails/holes.

I got that stuff covered. I am getting pretty good at it too.

I have a nice Romy "G" I am tearing apart now. I have been getting some of the tools needed to finish the job. If there is any group builds going on, I would be interested. I will be ordering the receiver shortly.
