So awhile back I put a Springfield 1911 Loaded on layaway at Green Mountain Guns. I picked it up this week and was able to get out and fire it for the first time today.

It is a brand new pistol so I was expecting to have some issues with it, until it was broken in, but surprisingly I only had 3 failure to feed, out of 400 rounds (100 of which were HP's). I was using 8 round Chip McC power mags, as well as the factory 7 rounders. I've owned 2 other Springfield pistols prior to this one, a GI and a Loaded. I had quite a bit of trouble with the GI up to about 500 rounds, then it started to smooth out. The other Loaded I owned, I bought used, so it was already broken in and functioned fine.

I've added Coyote Gunner grips to it, but so far that's about it. I'd like to replace some of the MIM parts with Wilson Bullet Proof parts at some point, but for now I think i'll just buy ammo and enjoy it. I plan on putting the Glock away for awhile and carrying this, and am patiently waiting for my Raven Holster to come in (16 week wait).

No action pics since I was by myself, but below is a pic for your enjoyment.

Sexy pistol! I'm glad it's working out so well too, it should be a great 1911, enjoy!

Thanks! I was actually quite surprised with it's out of the box performance, when compared to the GI. Plus all but 50 rounds I fired were reloads, and i'd almost like to blame the malfs on ammo.

One more trip to the range like that and it should be broken in and ready to carry? Do you have any other holsters to carry with untill the Raven comes in?

Actually i'm carrying it right now. The malfunctions took place very early on (within the first 100 rounds), and were with some LRN that I reloaded awhile back. In everything from rapid fire to limp wristing, I couldn't make it malfunction after the first 3 times. I shot 100 rounds of Hollow points last, and not one hiccup. I'd like to run more hollow points through it, but I rarely get more than 100 annually through any of my carry guns, just expensive. Fortunately I held on to a couple holsters from my previous 1911's, so I've got that covered.

Looks great. Polishing the feed ramp is always a good idea with 1911 style pistols but if you aren't having trouble I don't see the need. Good to hear you are having fun with your new pistol.

I like to overlube 1911s during break in. The lock grooves, slide rails, and link get extra doses of synthetic motor oil. If it has a one piece guide rod, I lube it and the contact parts for the barrel and slide with lots of the same too. Then I like to shoot about 500 rounds of target ammo out of it to smooth everything out. Clean, relube with normal amounts of the same synthetic oil and you should be good to go.

Note, don't overlube the internal trigger parts.
