I'm going to need a diaper bag soon with the new addition to our family on the way. I don't want to carry around the "pretty" Coach one my wife bought if I can avoid it, and I think it would be way cooler/different to have a tactical style bag for his baby stuff rather than plain old boring diaper bags (that are $70+ anyway). As an added plus after it's done being a diaper bag I can have a nice bag for me. I've been looking and the only one that seems to be close to the right size is the Maxpedition Mongo pack. Does anyone have any experience with it or suggestions for other bags like it? Maxpedition seems to be a bit pricey compared to Blackhawk, are they better quality? Thanks!

I can only talk to the quality of the Maxpedition, I have one of their small versipacks and its cool. Wish I had known of them when I needed to carry baby crap around, one of the larger packs would have been nice. Probably can't go wrong with either brand though.

Check http://www.lapolicegear.com/ they have some good sales on bags and you can sign up for sale notices. Take a look at their 5.11 mid size BOB it runs about $15 when they have a sale and you'll have a good BOB when your done with the diaper stage. [Beer]

Woot, thanks Stag! They have some good deals there and I forgot all about 5.11.

Man, now you're really thinking this through! Planning ahead, there's something to be said for that. I've been researching bags lately myself, as my old issue helmet bag isn't going to last much longer and I want something I can shoulder carry. Buddy of mine has one of the Maxpeditions (calls it his "murse") used for his CCW piece and all; and he swears by it. After looking at the available options, I'm going to do the same thing when I get one. I have to order a few 5.11 things from LA police gear here in the next couple days anyhow, maybe now's the time.

I really liked our baby bag. I've put my gun in there a few times. I'm really sad I left it on the roof once and lost it. I came back to look for it at around 1am and the only thing left was the bottle laying the gutter. So much for the "nice" neighborhood my parents live in.

We want another baby, and I think I'll look at something similar the second time around. Of course, we didn't have to pay for the baby bag the first time, that's what baby showers are for!

Congrats on the new addition.
I Used my Bugout bag for the longest time. Now I use a smaller Camo Bag that holds a small change of clothes, a few diapers and a Small package of wipes(as opposed to the huge Box).

Alex is still working on his timing... I Cannot wait until we dont have to carry the Murse

PS, Let me know if you and the wife are interested in a Nice stroller (http://strollers-strollers.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/Bugaboo-Bee-Stroller-in-Black.jpg)/Car seat set

I've used the Jumbo for years. It's amazing how much shit you can fit in those packs. Carried with it whenever it was hotter out and couldn't easily hide a full size on my person. The nice this is, with kids nobody expects anything out of the ordinary.

Only kicker to this carry method is you've gotta keep it close all the time. Can't set it down and walk away from it like you could a regular diaper bag.

Hey Byte, thanks! And thanks for the offer, we already got a stroller/carseat from the parents though.

I doubt I'll carry in the bag while it's a baby bag for that "close to your side" reason, maybe after it's relieved of baby status.

Thanks for the ideas and feedback!

It's not as large as you'd think, it's sorta like a large document bag. The central cavity would work well for diaper storage and the hideout pocket is readily accessible when the flap is down. Solid bag and doesn't look totally military, it's sorta nerdy to tell you the truth.

From the new baby's parents? Did you kidnap him?
