The US is sending warships, including one with 800 troops, and other military assets to Egypt as the revolution in the North African country gains momentum.

Damned right! I think we should should stay the heck out of the crazier parts of the world. Maybe the Navy was feeling neglected. It just seems an empty gesture since what are we going to do?

My Apologies as this is a very sensitive and complex issue as evidence by the nutjobs of Egyptian ancestry protesting against themselves in front of the White House.

As a friend pointed out, a majority of the world's oil is shipped through the Suez Canal, so you know that's why we're there

Im sure this will get a lot of bad thoughts but why dont we bring all our troops home. protect ourselves first. If certain parts of the world want to get out of control we should go take it over. But only the places that benefit us like those places with oil. just a thought. i figure if we are going to go all the way over there we might as well control it.

In other news, a Nobel peace prize recipient is sending in troops to a country on another continent that poses no immediate threat to the recipient or his respective country. How can this be overlooked by the media [LOL]

Taste the irony.

Why would we want to "take over" an out of control place?

Do you want Mexico?
Do you want South Africa?
etc
etc

I don't want to be responsible for those places.

Not a matter of wanting to. But if Egypt and other places that are having uprisings turn into a group of jihadist lunatics like Iran and they start cutting off oil as part of their games I say go take the places over. Other wise bring our servicemen and women home to defend our borders from the constant invasion from the south.

And mexico wouldnt be too bad to own. Some nice spots along the coast I have visited during the Baja 1000 race over the years. set up a nice little home do some riding and hunting. Just saying. It would only take a few reservists to take it at this point i would think.
