People are Idiots...
My drive is from brighton to lakewood and I got to see some of the most moronic drivers this morning. Most doing 80 or better in blowing snow, you can barely see the lanes and these people are still flying through without any kind of caution. Be Safe on your drive in guys!!!

Man, people are idiots! I tell you I passed so many people crawling along at 2mph when the roads were just fine! Heck, I even had my windows down! It's not blowing snow, that's the snow on the road being whipped up by everyone passing your slow butt!

I'm kidding, I'm kidding! lol. [Beer]

Luckily my drive to work isn't too painful, I'll agree there are a lot of bad drivers out there. Lord knows I have my moments. Everyone be safe out there today!

The drive from Castle Rock to DTC was a mess, with only one lane plowed, and loose unplowed snow in the other lanes. Nice job, CDOT

I was listening to KBPI this morning and the traffic guy goes, "Surprisingly there's very few accidents this morning because people are taking it slow. Like you're supposed to. Congratulations."

Nah, it was a red Dodge Ram or something. I live up in Thornton area and drive to 120th or so for work. He was half-sideways from spinning so much trying to get up the hill. Looked like a 4x4 model though, so I don't know why he wasn't in 4 wheel drive....

Oh, one of those Dodge Sprinters was stuck going up Washington from 84th (in Thornton). He was sideways in the right lane and had a Uhaul trailer. Thought maybe we saw the same stupidity.

Heard from the wife this morning that it took her 2 hours to get into work that is 7mi away and she works right across the street from my building.

Luckily, I can log in from home. So that's what I'm doing today. [Coffee]

Bet he had bald tires. He could have 10-wheel drive with bald tires and have the same trouble. I am always shocked at how many people think that because they have a 4x4 they can go anywhere in anything yet they still have bald tires. Doesn't matter how many wheels have power if your tires don't have any traction...that goes the same for stopping too. 4x4's can't slow down any faster than 2-wheel drive...this is directed at all those tools that drive 80 in the snow in their 4x4 SUVs. Hope you're not behind me when I need to stop.

Yeah..he started running with it, and trying to stop it with his shoulder. It was a little box trailer, but still. I got out of there before I saw the aftermath.

Man I agree about the 80 mph and stopping. These asshats are sliding every which way trying to aviod hitting a car but yet still do 80+. I use to carry "c" batterys in my car when I was younger, ahh how I miss those days.

Im not home or I would have been cruising past most people. Get your 2wd mustang pos outta my way! 20 mph on the highway....you should be on a side road. And yes I will put my tires in the middle of the lane with all the slush and gunk as I pass you and get all that shit on your slow ass!

Exactly. I didn't take a look at his tires, but I'd be willing to bet he was in need of some. Only the right-rear tire was spinning when he was trying to get up the hill, lol.

Saw a red Ford Ranger fish tale back and forth a few times in the middle lanes of I-25 as he tried to gas it around someone as soon as he got on the highway. I rolled down my window and flipped him off when I passed him. I don't think he noticed.

That is because people aren't afraid and they should be.
Snowpack and ice is worse than fresh snow everyday.

Overconfidence is even worse

Yes she is fine. She was trying to make a right turn at a slow speed and her car did not turn right and went straight. She hit a guy waiting at the light. It just scratched his door but it cracked her bumper. She told the guy we would take care of it and not to call the police, but he did so now she has a $170 ticket to pay aswell. Once the cop showed up the guy was like "you dont have to write her a ticket" but is was to late. I dont blame him, if I was not at fault I would have called the cops too.

Foxtrot - What kind of motorcycle are you riding that you can chain up? The reason I ask is my dad works the graveyard shift and rides his to work almost everyday that he can which means he comes out in the morning to find snow sometimes. Even worse, he commutes up a pass after work and may find snow halfway up and has on a number of occasions. Like you he went through a blizzard recently but had no idea he would run into it when he started his ride.

Sounds like you're a die hard like him. He evens rides to work when it's near 0deg...I think his lowest so far is 4 deg or something. I couldn't do that but he loves it. The worst I have been in was a nasty hail/rain/sleet storm from east of Hartsel to Denver via 285. Hardest 100 miles I ever spent on a bike. The hail got so bad so fast that before I knew it there was 6-8" built up on the the road and all I could do was stay in the tire tracks left by the car in front of me. Worst part was I had a half shell helmet and 1/4-1/2" hail was coming at my face sideways. As you know, people make the funniest faces when they see some crazy SOB on a MC in that shit.

I'd like to tell him to get some chains but I didn't know they had such thing for bikes.

This morning I saw an SUV skid through an intersection sideways in front of oncoming traffic before proceeding to fishtail for a full block down 17th Ave. It was some Mexican lady text messaging during the morning rush hour commute on ice.

It seems like half the idiots I saw losing control on the ice had their cellphones pressed up against their ear.

Driving in heavy traffic on ice is dangerous and requires focus. Seeing this sort of carelessness pisses me off.

went to ho pot after school and on the way out saw a guy in a huge 2wd truck try to make a right uphill.

he ended up going left. down hill.

after he slid sideways and was out of the way, I went right~

bad driving in snow aside, it's appalling for me to see how poorly people prepare for the weather. you think someone living in colorado would be smart enough to buy a coat for winter.

Irving
02-09-2011, 14:51
I had a person comment to me how quickly a car cooled down in this weather. I said, "Yep." She was going to be sitting in her non-running car for the next 4 hours or so waiting for assistance. She said that she didn't have a coat because she was only going a mile from home. Bet she won't do that again.

In the winter, there is a compact shovel.. and washer fluid.

I slept in my car for nearly two hours, in an open parking lot, without the engine on, during the first very cold snap we had last week. 1 parka and 1 small, pink, baby blankey, folded in half, on my legs.

Yesterday, after getting off of a call with a woman who's RWD Jeep Liberty was stuck in the middle of her cul-de-sac, she thought that I had hung up and I clearly heard her say, "Fuck Colorado! I'm so fucking out of here." I laughed and disconnected before I heard any more grumbling.

I almost crashed yesterday. After a crappy drive home, I decided to run over to Home Depot to pick up a couple of sandbags for my trunk. Coming up to a stoplight, touch brakes, start sliding. Traffic going through stoplight, so I thought "ok, i can either hit these cars, or try to crash in to the snowbank."

Cranked my wheel hard and gave her some gas and drove right in to the snow bank. Worked like a charm with no damage to the car, and I was only stuck for a minute.

Isn't it amazing how you can quickly do all kinds of acrobatic maneuvers in an instant of panic, yet you can't do something as simple as stop? I slid into an intersection this morning as well.

Boring guide on motorcycle chains follows, people not interested skip this post!

You didn't know they had such a think because they don't. But here is what you do:

I can supply some pictures later, probably after the weekend. Lets see if I can get high centered on snow on Sunday ;)

Thanks for the info Fox. Very interesting. He is running a V-Strom 650 this time of year and although the tires he's running will work, now that I think of it, the front fender on that bike wouldn't allow chains. Don't know why they put a front fender like that on a dual purpose bike, it just gets F'd up in the dirt.

Our snow will be gone in a few days so we can all go back to driving like crazies on dry roads. [harley]
