View Full Version : Why do you have the particular guns you have?

Somehow I've wound up with 12 handguns and 8 long-guns.
On the one hand, that "feels" like far too many. Yet, it seems like there's a void to be filled.
I generally have a pretty good reason / justification / rationale for each, although admittedly some have been superseded by others.
Perhaps it's just me. I fancy myself as something of a minimalist at heart, so I tend to look hard at the things cluttering up my house / life and get rid of stuff whenever possible.
Why do you have what you have?

That is a tough question I have different reasons for owning different guns I have. I curently have 13 long guns, 12 handguns and two suppressors that number will continue to increase.
Some guns I have for hunting, Some are for competition, Some like my m16 is nothing more than a toy fun to shoot, Some are for personal protection, Some are nothing more than collection guns and some like my single shot .410 have sentimental value. My grandfather who died when I was 15 bought that gun when he was 11 yrs. old for $3.50 to hunt pheasants. My dad was the oldest child and it was given to him when he was old enough to start hunting. I will never forget the day I passed my hunters safety 12yrs old at the time and when I got home my dad handed the .410 to me and two boxes of shells he had for it. My first real gun not to mention I was the proudest 12 yr old on the planet.
I guess all I can say is everygun I own I have for a reason it just depends on the gun as to what my reason is.

I have most of my long guns are to have different calibers for different hunting. But like you I have other reasons too.
12ga franchi over under- upland bird hunting
12ga Remington 870- waterfowl hunting
two old 12ga shotguns one single shot one pump- given to me and been too lazy to try and sell, plus they are not worth much
300 Win Mag bolt gun- elk hunting
Browning BAR 30-06 (Belgium produced)- was my Dad's, use it for deer and antelope huinting
CZ 527 Varmint 204 Ruger- prarie dogs and varmints
Marlin 917V 17HMR- close in prarie dogs and target shooting
2 Ruger 10/22s- just target and plinking
RRA Elite CAR A4- just had to have an AR, they are cool :P Mostly just plink clay targets with it but it is always ready to go in case I have an intruder or the SHTF.
Glock 22- was my father-in-laws
Glock 17- cheaper to shoot than the 22
Sig Trailside- even cheaper than the 17 and .22 pistols are fun
Taurus 24/7- trying to sell, just don't like the trigger

Savage 220, 20ga single shot - When he was 12, my grandpa bought this gun used with four boxes of shells for $5, and it's been in the family since. Kicks harder than a 12ga, and the single-shot is a PITA, but I'll never get rid of it.
Browning A5 - also been in the family for a long time, my great grandpa bought it new in '39.
Marlin 39A - given to me by my other grandpa, it's a sweet gun and accurate as hell.
Ruger 10/22 - found it at a neighbor's garage sale for a good deal. It's not all that much fun to shoot, and it's had some reliability problems, but I'm too lazy to get rid of it.
Glock 19 - I always promised myself that I'd buy a Glock on my 21st birthday, so I did. :)
Ruger MarkII - always loved these guns, especially the bull-barrel. Found this one and jumped on it. It's not all that reliable either, but fun as hell to shoot.

I started thinking about topic because I've been wondering about another bolt-gun. Just for screwing around.
Something in a short, lightweight 243 Winchester or 6mm "no neck" BR just sounds like fun to me.
But with my AR-10 in 260 Remington and my 700P in 260 Remington, I just haven't figured out a way to rationalize another screwing-around gun.
I figure my 260's cost me at LEAST $.40/shot. So, if I were to spend $1K on a 223 bolt-gun setup, I'd recoup the cost @ 5000rds (assuming $.20 for 223). But if I'm going to shoot 223, I might as well stick to my AR's.
I've got my 3-guns for 3-Gun (hi-cap .40, "assault" shotgun, tricked-out AR-15), plus a modified 700P bolt-gun.
Most of the pistols were just "stepping stones" on to something else. I guess the first gun I bought myself was a Springfield Micro-Compact .45. After deciding it was fun to carry, but not so fun to shoot, I bought a CZ75B 9mm, and a Browning BuckMark .22.

Back when I was dating my now-wife, we camped with a group of friends who liked to shoot.
I bought a Ruger New-Model Blackhawk convertible in 9mm / .357 and a Springfield Armory mil-spec .38 Super.
They're neat-enough guns, but don't see much use anymore.

I bought a S&W 629 Mountain Gun last Spring to accompany me turkey-hunting in an area with problem-bears.
I decided the S&W 357PD was a better-solution, but now I'm starting to think pepper-spray actually trumps either of them.

I think I'm going to bring home my grandpas BAR 30-06 this summer.
Tell me more about the 204 Ruger and 17HMR. Glad you bought them? Use them much? Like them much?
Mike
Is this thread really asking why we have what we have, or are you just looking for new excuses for a new gun?

I'm the king of rationalizing. And I have a tendency to assume if I just think about a problem long enough, I'll figure out.
I also definitely think "less is more".
So I'm looking around at all these guns. Remembering WHY I bought each one, or looking at the role it's moved in to.
I honestly am looking for some insight into why people have the particular guns they have.
If something I read suddenly brings me to an epiphany that results in a new toy -- so much the better.

I was kind of hoping a few people with through a progression as well.
Started with, X --> then went to Y, and eventually wound up at Z.
I kind of did that with air-rifles, and flashlights...and knives.
Thought maybe I could short-circuit that cycle.

Tell me more about the 204 Ruger and 17HMR. Glad you bought them? Use them much? Like them much?
MikeI got both of them recently and haven't used them all that much yet. Just out at Pawnee shooting paper and soda bottles. I plan on using them a lot this summer. I have two small dog town I can hunt but am trying to find more, especially in WY. My Dad also wants to get into coyote hunting.
I am really impresed with the accuracy of the Marlin 917V. Especially when you consider it only cost $190. I did put a Rifle Basix trigger in it though. Very fun to shoot also.
The 204 Ruger is amazing. I agree with other people that state it is like shooting a lazer. You pull the trigger and the target is instantly hit, even at long ranges. I have mine zeroed at 270 yds which gives me a MPBR of about 340. I can hold on a PDs chest out to 340 and it will get hit., as long as I do my part.

Can you get factory ammo for the 204 Ruger for <$.60/rd?
I was really excited about the 17HM2 / 17HMR for a while there, but it doesn't look like it really buys me anything over my 10/22.

We all started with X and went to Y it is human nature. My first gun as stated above was a single shot .410 now I am into NFA weapons. I live by the moto you can never own to many guns I have olny parted with one gun in my entire life. This was a High Standard deringer and I gave it to my little sister on her 21 B-day. The very next year was when that rapist was running loose at CSU. If he would have picked my little sis his arse would be worm dirt I tought her well. She now works for Commerce City PD and she still has that gun.
Everybody goes through a progession my first cary gun was a ruger SP-101 I now carry a G27 but would still not give up my 101 even though I never shoot it anymore.
You can't short circuit life just go with it and buy any and all guns that you feel a need for no reason to justify it.

I keep expecting someone to chime in that they've got an AR-15, a 308 bolt-gun, a hi-cap 40 S&W, and a semi-auto 12ga.
And they're set.
Maybe add a rimfire rifle / pistol.
Done.

MikeI just bought some Hornady from Midsouth for $11.04/20 rnds. I was buying somethng else anyways so I wouldn't count the shipping. Sportsmans has it all the time for $12.99/20 rnds. The best was last year Remmington had a $10 rebate if you bought 2 boxes. Total cost was $16/ 40rnds. I bought 8 boxes but ran out of people to send the rebate to, limit was one per house/name.
I think the 17hmr does offer a lot more than a 10/22. You should try to shoot one to check it out.
Originally they were for hunting. Rifles for elk, shotguns for foul & upland, handguns for people. Now, I find that the interweb, mainly ARFCOM, is making me want to buy some black rifles & pistols "just because."

I've been thinking on this one since You first posted it. I'm still not sure how to answer.
1/3 of My collection is C&R type stuff, I like history :D
1/3 is current or former military issue replicas.
The last third, is shotguns, .22's and pistols.
I honestly can't say as to "why" other than I can, and I like them.

P.S. Is there any C&R stuff in .308 Winchester?

Circa 1970's, I was 7 years old I asked for a BB gun for x-mas and got a 20ga single shot. My Dad said, if you want to shoot you may as well hunt with me.
That did me until the late 70's earily 80's when I went to college. I got the bug for a BB gun again and shot it around campus until I got into trouble and it was taken away. After it was taken away I went to my employer at the time (Walmart) and bought a Marlin model 60 .22lr. This fed me through college and killed way too many rabbits to list. I do know for a fact that it has in excess of 50,000 rounds out of it and it is still a tack driver.
I moved out on my own after college and bought a S&W 9mm model 69 that was sufficient for about a year and I needed another handgun. I bought a S&W 586 .357mag and again shot it enough to have over 10,000 pieces of .38 special and .357 mag brass.
Within a few years I got proficient and started competing in handgun shooting and collected:
Springfield Champion 1911
Springfield Government 1911
Detonics Scoremaster
Beretta 92FS
Ruger Mark II 10" bull ss
Ruger Super Redhawk
S&W 686 8 3/8"
S&W 629 4"
Glock 17,19,20,21,26
Taurus PT22
Sig 230
Then I discovered that I didn't need all those handguns and sold a few.
I was having problems with the Springfield Champion and had over $1000 worth of smithing done but I would not bet my life on it as I was in law enforcement at the time and traded it for a new Ruger Vaquero .45LC polished SS in 4 5/8" with the imitation ivory grips. That's when my wife informed me that it was a beatiful handgun and it needed to be put away for our new son as an heirloom. Well that triggered a fasination with single action and I bought another in a Bisley in .357 mag. To go with the new Bisley I had to buy a Winchester 94 in .357 mag. Then a 30-30 and a Marlin 1895SS in 45-70.
During the whole law enforcement thing I was trained in sniper/counter sniper and had a plethera of bolt action and semi-auto rifles, hense my fasination with the AR platform.
To compliment my 16" Hbar I also own an AR pistol, 9mm carbine AR, 40S&W carbine AR, Disipator and now the new 6x45 AR K8.
My other rifles, most in heavy barrel include the following calibers. .22lr, .22 mag, .223, .243, 25-06, 6mm BR, .270, 2.80, 7mm mag, 30-30, .308, 30-06, 300 Win Mag, .35 Rem, 45-70
I have 2 muzzle loaders for hunting both TC, a .54 Hawkin and a .50 Silver Elite.
Shotguns have always still been my passion:
870 20 ga
870 12 ga
1100 28 ga
1100 16 ga
1100 12 ga
11-87 premier 12ga
11-87 SP
Browning Gold 12 ga
Browning Sproting Clays Gold 12 ga
(wifes) Browning ladies Sporting Clays Gold 12 ga
Baikal IZH-27 in 12 and 20 ga
Since selling some handguns a while back I've replaced with a few new ones.
Taurus 605
Beretta 9000S
Ruger p-89,kp-90,kp-91
kahr 9
Walther PPK/S
replacement Taurus PT22 ss sold the other one to my dad
I belive this collection makes me a pretty well rounded shooter and I don't see that at this time I need another one. Don't get me wrong, the last time it only lasted a few months and I had to get another.
Looking at this list and my review of Specialty Sports, you might more understand why Specialty got the review I gave it.
The staff has always been top notch as far as attitute and knowlege over the last...say 20 years. I remember when it was just Jeff in that 8x10 shack.
I have 2 gripes though:
1st, prices are not "fair"...most are actually over MSRP. When stating this to Jeff his response was "The manufacture's site MSRP was wrong." I don't know personally if this is true for all firearm manufacturer's MSRP pricing on their web sites, but I suspect Jeff just thought he was not making enough mark up at MSRP.
2nd, I always will ask if I can get a discount because over the last 20 years I have purchases 20+ guns from them and kinda expect special treatment. Nodda...ever. Jeff stated, "I never offer discounts unless I have too many of something that I need to get rid of." That in itself I have no problem with, EXCEPT, I know people personally, good friends, best friends, who get a discount EVERY time they buy a firearm there. I guess spending upwards to $15,000, is not enough to warrant "good customer" status.
Synopsis:
If I am looking for something they have a great display of firearms to play with to decide what I want. But, I do not support them by purchasing anything from them anymore.
EDIT: Their used gun prices are fair indicating people getting hosed in trade in value. I have purchased 3 of these over the years too.
I expect Sportsman's Warehouse will be hurting them financially and they will alter pricing or go under. That new building must have a lot more over-head that will cost them...maybe they will be forced to raise prices?
Yes, There is. a Spanish FR8, Basicly a Mauser rechambered in .308 . Kind of rare but they are out there. At least they're rare for Me finding one.

And there is an Enfield Mk 5. I think some of those were rechambered.

I thought maybe I was cured, but...
A couple of my friends dragged me over to Specialty Sports and Supply to help them pick out an AR-15.
While we were waiting for the background check, I couldn't help but wander around...
Now I've been thinking about more toys. Darn it!
There was a Ruger Blackhawk in .41 Magnum for $389.
And a S&W 520 revolver.
And a Springfield XD 4" "Service Model" in 9mm
And a Colt lightweight Super Commander for $889
And for some reason that 16" Armalite A4 with the mid-length gas-system and brake just strikes my fancy. Really only need the upper though.
And....
Mike
Initially it was for the history of the rifle. Having weapons that have served from WW1 to Korea means something to me for some reason.
Then it was the challenge (?) of making an EBR the brought on the FAL & AK.
Pistols? They are older and have a history, though as police weapons. The Sig is police as well though that was for a reliable weapon...
Shotguns, havent seen a need for one yet.
michael_aos:
there is also the spanish civil guard rifle in .308. It supposedly is not as sturdy as the FR8 but much more common.

My Savage-Anschutz 22LR came from my grandfather. I'll keep it for sentiment even though we never shot it very often.
The AR; I was looking for a defensive weapon that was semi auto, good stopping power, hi capacity mags easily available, capable of better accuracy than me out to 300, quality, reliable.
I was tempted by AK's, from a reliability and price standpoint, but the functionality of the safety and the magazine release, accuracy, and weight threw the balance to AR.
Now I'm looking at MG's and handguns, but I'm sure it will be a while before any discretionary $ comes available.

Left a hand full of stuff in the corner of the safe out of the list. Thats the basics of it though...
Everything has its purpose. Most of the WW2 stuff is used for public display in a "living history" setting. Everything else has a specific day to day purpose
Ive sold off all my AR's, although I really want one again once i have some cash again. Thinking I need a good .308 battle rifle(PTR, Cetme, FAL, or M1A), and AK, and a Garand. Ive made a recent pact with myself that nothing gets sold from now on. Im just gonna buy!
This year and last year combined, I sold tons of firearm(s). I worked Dick's Sporting Good part time for Hunting (lodge) and Golf, So I had some pro deal on few rifles.
Having working at Dick's as part time job, I did have tons of Firearm and Golf talks. Just not enough time to actually shoot a firearm.
Here are few of mine.
FN FiveSeven- My wife loveeeeeees it.
HK45- Carry it at work
P30- CCW
P220 Combat TB- I just got it, because I wanted P220. Got a great deal on it.
P2000SK- wife's ccw, but she almost never carries it. :(
Beretta 687 SP 12GA O/U- Trap and Sporting Clay
Bushmaster AR-15 - Fun gun to shoot/defense
FN PS90- Fun gun to shoot/defense
FN FS2000 - Fun gun to shoot/defense
Sako TRG-22- Even my wife can shoot Sub-MOA @100 with crappy ammo like Rem Core-Loks.
What I am planning to buy, when economy gets better:
-Remington 700 LM 338 Lapua Mag
-Any 1911. (Kimber and up).
-Mossberg 930SPX
-Beretta Semi Autos (no optima).
Well I sold a lot of my stuff but slowly building it back up.
P2000 in .40...my ccw
P2000sk in 9mm...wife's ccw
Walther P22...bought for my wife to learn with and fun to plink with
10/22...semi-tricked out for mostly target/plinking
S&W M&P15T...newest edition and first AR to learn the platform
I know it's a small collection but gotta start somewhere!!
Ok, it's not much but here I go:
Ruger 10/22 .22 - my first gun ever given to me by my late grandpa. This is the gun I learned to shoot on. Yes, I learned with iron sites first, lol. Many a TN prarie dog saw their last days with this little gun.
Berretta 390 12 ga. Semi-auto shotgun - First real introduction into sport shooting was trap/skeet. This was a present from my dad when he noticed I had "natural" abilities with a firearm. Actually won a few competitions back in high school with this one... I think the natural abilities help when both grandpa and dad taught me and both were considered "expert marksmen" in all instances of the military grading, lol.
Howa 1500 Heavy Barell .308 bolt - My long range setup. Probably the most expensive one too with several mods on it.
Glock 19, 9mm - daily carry and practice sidearm, lots of mods on it.
Glock 26, 9mm - will be daily carry for wife (Amazing little weapon!!)
Glock 21, .45ACP - trial gun when I'm up in the woods or hiking.
Still left to acquire:
Noveske N4 SST 12-inch with switchblock
Benelli M4 12 ga. 14 inch tact set up
Gemtech Sandstorm (.308)
Gemtech Halo (5.56)
Gemtech Blackside (.45)
Gemtech Tundra (9mm)
Some sort of .357 revolver.
After that, it is safe to say, I think I will done. Honestly. After that just a butt load of ammo and tons of practice/training.
In a fantasy world, I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to get my hands on a Full auto Thompson, M16, or HK MP5, but I can't justify (nor ultimately being a teacher will ever be able to afford! lol) the costs for that.

Walther P22- Fun plinker/trainer. I've been taking a lot of my friends shooting for the first time this past year, and its a great little pistol to start them out on.
Ruger Mk III- Another fun plinker, more accurate than the Walther, but not as much recoil.
S&W Model 19 .357 - Just awesome. Backpacking gun, fun larger caliber gun for friends who don't like the idea of a moving slide.
Glock 23 .40 - Carry gun when clothing/system/weather allows. Keep it with my LBE for a grab and go system.
Glock 27 .40 - Full time carry gun.
Remington (I forget the model #) single shot .22 - My first gun given to me by an old friend, unbelievably accurate with iron sights, and taught me to shoot. One shot with iron sights...better hit what you're shooting at!
Ruger 10/22 - Modded out (bbl, awesome glass) fun plinker, p-dog rifle.
NEF single shot 20ga - my first shotgun. Paid $90 for it used in Gunnison.
Remington 870 Express 12ga- Trap, upland hunting gun.
Nato M12 .308 bolt rifle- Built on a Mauser 98 action, currently in the shop having a custom stock made for it. Hunting and long range target uses.
Ruger M77 Mk II .30-06 - My dad's hunting rifle that has since become mine, a lot of fun for p-dogs, also for big game.
Stag Arms M4gery - Training, defense, SHTF gun.

Handguns: I'm a little light here.
Sig-Sauer P220 .45 ACP
Ruger single-six .22 Lr.
Shotguns:
Rem 1100 set up for trap.
Rem 870 with 7 round mag. Black furniture. Plain old front bead sight. This is my number one go to gun out here where I live. I cannot sing it's praises enough.
I have many, many more aquisitions to make in the firearms dept. I agree with the concept that less is more, with the exception of guns. If I were to hit Powerball, I could single handedly end the economic slump for firearms manufacturers![ROFL1]
mine all went to the bottom of Jefferson Lake sadly,, a boating accident.
mtn. man, if you happen to see any extras down there let me know. while flying we hit some bad turbulence and the door opened and out went any guns I had straight into that lake. I haven't been able to buy one since in fear[ROFL2]
Seems to be a lot of boating accidents. Can someone PM the info on these boating accidents?
The Lake is VERY VERY DEEP,,, and COLD...

The whole thought process of this thread has me baffled; less is more? Since when?
Wait, someone said they have to have a reason to justify buying a gun? I thought the reason to buy any gun was to shoot it. Maybe I'm just not looking deep enough into this whole thing. Then again, if looking deeply into why I buy a gun stops me from buying a gun, maybe it's a bad idea.

Well, you'll notice I made an exception for firearms. If I were to get suddenly rich it is not beyond the realm of possibility that I would walk into a gunshop, approach the counter, and when the clerk asks "can I help you", I'll look around while pointing at everything and respond, yes, I'll take it. Just give me a number and while you guys are boxing it all up and doing the CBI check, I'll be at the bank getting a cashier's check...[ROFL1]

no way you are thinking on too small a scale.
I would walk in and just say: "I would like to buy it". the desk guy would be like, "what". me: "yes I would like to buy it...the store...I am going to buy it, so go get your owner"[Tooth]

Guns? Who here has guns? I thought all of this talk was just theory - at least since we all lost our guns in tragic boating accidents.

I only have a few..
Winchester model 1894 (made in 1994) in .30-30 -- This is a fun gun to shoot and is a classic. It was my first gun and I think that someday I would love to sit on my back porch and shoot prairie dogs or something with it while smoking a cigar. I won't ever sell this one.
Mossberg 500A Persuader (full synthetic stock version) 12 gauge, 20" barrel -- I just got this one a few months ago and I plan to keep it as a home defense and general purpose shotgun. I've shot trap with it, I've shot paper targets with it, and I'll shoot anything that comes in the front door without my permission with it.
AR-15 in 6.8x43mm with the DMR-C chamber (the tightest one available) 16" barrel -- This was my first AR and will stay with me until I die. It can easily hit a quarter at 100yds. If I was going to hunt any small or medium game, this is the gun I would use. It can carry 1000 ft-lbs of energy out to 350 yds. I can't think of many situations where I would need to shoot much further than that.
AR-15 in 5.56mm, 16" barrel -- This is quickly becoming my "go-to" gun. It's the cheapest to shoot and it is fairly accurate. I have a RDS on here and I like to do "run and gun" drills and practice (and improve!) most of my shooting skills with this one. In a SHTF scenario, I would grab this AR and the Mossberg along with their respective ammo cans full of ammo and head for the hills in my truck.
I hope to get a Glock 19 and start carrying, but there are other things that need to be taken care of first. (finish school, etc)

Guns? Who here has guns? I thought all of this talk was just theory - at least since we all lost our guns in tragic boating accidents.
What a sad day that was.
The Mossberg 590 I had prior to the TBA (Tragic Boating Accident) was a terrific house gun. I had it loaded with those mini-shells (#12 shot, if I remember correctly) in the belief that even with a cylinder bore, it'll still be like a freight train at 21 +/- feet but it wouldn't go much further than the first wall it hit. Plus, to be flat out honest, there's something about a shotgun that'll mount a bayonet that just appeals to me.
I've had a few folks at work ask me about what they should get for home defense, and they usually are thinking about a pistol. I love pistols, I enjoy them, but honestly if someone who doesn't yet own a gun asks me about the ideal home defense weapon I usually steer them to a shotgun. Pistols, in my opinion, take substantially more training to be effective with in the home-defense role and unless you're using some sort of frangible ammo (Like Glasers) you have a high risk of overpenetration. I don't know about you guys, but I have homes around me and I know most of these folks and don't want bullets flying around through their places. A shotgun, on the other hand, is often cheaper to purchase, cheaper to practice with, and the ammo is available almost anywhere. Go to wallyworld and buy one of those 100 round boxes of shells and go practice every month or two. Load 'er up with birdshot and you're good. In the distances you find in most homes, a column of birdshot will still go through a person bent on doing you and yours bodily harm like that freight train I mentioned earlier. But it won't go much further. Plus, there's the psychological factor of them looking down the equivalent of a sewer pipe to make them think about changing their mind before they continue whatever they're doing. Plus you can just tape a flashlight to a shotgun barrel for a cheap & easy tactical light, unless you want to get a light-equipped foreend. I do recommend a full stock of some sort though. Have any of you guys ever shot those pistol-grip only setups? Not exactly conducive to practicing a lot. Or even much!
I disagree. Birdshot will hardly penetrate the skin. I've even seen arrest photos of a guy that took a round of birdshot to the face. It just looked like he had chicken pox. If a round won't go through walls, it doesn't stand a chance going through bad guys.

I agree. That's why I'm a big fan of 0, 00, or 000 Buckshot. Nothing like getting hit with multiple 9mm bullets going 1300 fps. ...Talk about a show stopper! [Shotg]
A friend told me once that the theme to my gun collection was "cheap and wierd"
My Mosin Nagant m1891 was made by Westinghouse.
CZ52 pistol because it's roller locked. The only other roller locked gun that I know of is the MG 42.
An Eddystone M1917 to go with a sporterized Eddystone M1917 I have. I got it cheap because it is a parade gun. It's all chrome plated and the bore and action look new.
A Hopkins & Allen no. 822 rifle in 22lr because it's old enough to not have a serial number (and was only $25).
Astra "Modelo 1921" (400) because it's a pure blowback full power 9mm. After I got it I checked the serial number and it appears to be from the first contract for the Spanish army.
CETME because the HKs are clones of it, not the other way around.
FR-8 because of the CETME barrel thing.
Mossberg 46M(a) 22lr riflle is "weird" because it is the ugliest gun I have ever seen. It has a fat full length stock with a flame tiger stripe finish. Mossberg made it that way. $75 by the way.
My SMLE was made by Savage.
Schmidt-Rubin M1896/11 because it was cheap and the straight pull action is unusual.
Later on a Schmidt-Rubin K31 to keep the 96/11 company.
Mossberg 183T shotgun because I thought the bolt action was cool on a shotgun. And only $50.
Greener/Martini Police shotgun. A three pronged firing pin and a bottleneck shotgun shell is strange. I paid a cartridge collecter $15 for one shell for a shotgun I that only cost me $60.
1895 Nagant revolver because of the gas-seal.
Mossberg Bullpup 12 shotgun.
And it's not a firearm but I have a magazine fed blowgun. It has 8 round/dart magazines.
I am always on the hunt for unusual cheap weird guns.

Yep, I keep my beloved 870 loaded in such a way that the first two coming out are 2 3/4 shells loaded with #8 shot. The next four are 3" mags loaded with 00 Buck.
The birdshot is pure poison on the rattlesnakes that infest this part of the state. As for the buckshot, well, if a guy can't put it down with four 3" shells loaded with #00 buck, then GOD doesn't want it put down....
CETME because the HKs are clones of it, not the other way around.
I've always wanted one of those

I SOOOOO wanted to do that when Shootin Den was up for sale here in the Springs 2 years ago, but I didn't have to guts to make the jump from working IT on a .gov contract to owning and running a gun store.
Looknig back on it, I'll bet GreenScoutII would have helped me.

Try explaining that to my wife. She feels it's her duty to provide me with the "intervention" that I "need"!
My collection had dwindled down over the years, just getting more recently. As is, I got an AR which was fun to build. My MK23, my PK380, 1911, HK USP 45, M&P 45, two MP5-40's, and one in parts, and two MP5k's. Damn, just one rifle out of the bunch... Now, the 2nd part of the question, why do I have them? Because I can!
