HunterCO
03-14-2006, 09:32
Harris Park is just north of Bailey when you hit the top of crow hill you head north about 12 miles. It is about a 45 minute drive from Denver the only problem is you cant get to the range in a car you need a 4x4. There is a solution to this you can get with in a 1/4 mile of the range and there is a big open area to park and everybody can pile into the 4x4's for the last 1/4 mile.

When I say you need a 4x4 I don't mean it is really nasty hard core 4x4 it is just bad enough that a car will not cut it. I go there all the time if it is dry in my truck in 2 wheel drive you just need the ground clearance.

Asha'man

HunterCO

Makes no difference to me I am in for either spot. As far as Harris Park those with cars that big flat open area off the the right where the shotgun shells were in the road is were they can park. Then just hitch a ride the rest of the way with somebody with a truck.

I will leave up to the rest of you to pick where you want to have the shoot.

Go west on 66 to lyons, follow it through town and turn left on hwy 7. go up into the mountains 5 or 6 miles till you see a callbox, near the junction to 72. The callbox is on the left side of the road, park on the right side where the signs are. Walk over the little hill and have fun shooting!

I really want to go but I don't know if I'll be working or not. I also know that I'll likely be working friday 2300-0700 and that makes for a really really long day.

Nederland and Lyons are both supposed to be mostly sunny tomorrow with temps of 54 and 65, afternoon clouds. They pretty much bracket the site. Should be fine as long as there's not a mudfest on the ground. I'm pretty sure your glock will be welcomed with open arms. (open actions? minds? hearts?) whatever.

I went up this morning

Couldn't believe all the trash

Since I know you guys wouldn't leave it like that I have to assume the worst about whoever came after you!

When I first saw the place, I thought the whole lot of us could spend an 8 hour day cleaning and the only way that it would make a visible dent was if we limited our efforts to the firing line area.

Since I had other priorities, I simply took out something like triple what I dropped on the ground and left it at that. I saw several others who brought trash bags as well. Several of us took them with us down range, picking up as we went to change targets. So, yeah, I guess you could say we left it like that...

Another question since I'm new to the site, what about clay pigeons?
To my eye, trashed clays look like, well, trash. It seems darn hard to pick up little shattered bits of clay, and yes I know it's pretty non-toxic as trash goes and will return to the ground eventually. but... orange colored trash sure stands out. I wonder if it would make sense as a club to make a guideline about it at least as fixed targets lying on the ground. I understand for shotgunners, you pretty much need to use them for aerial practice.

Marlin
04-09-2006, 10:22
Clays are designed to return from whence they came, depending on weather, could be a few weeks or a month or two.

Gman
04-09-2006, 10:57
I like shooting clays. If the clays are in big chunks, just step on them to crush them. They'll break down faster.

Maybe we should plan on a 0900hrs pre-shoot clean-up in June (and the obligatory post-shoot pick your own mess up).
Also, I think we should make up Club t-shirts with the CO-AR15 logo on the BACK to identify "friendly" forces, and plan on wearing them to every organized shoot. I don't want to look like a tool out there like some family at Disney, but at least we won't look like every other yahoo, and will be identified as the responsible guys who are safe and tidy. It is (almost) free advertising and might encourage weekend warriors to join, be more responsible, and possibly seek some training. We did this at my last gun club (Northern Illinois Tactical) and it worked well. Just a thought.
