I think that many among the generation in their 20s-30s have basically lost any sense of common courtesy--in their electronic world in which they have always lived, courteous interactions with real people face-to-face were almost entirely supplanted by pms and emails to autonomous strangers somewhere far out in the interweb galaxy...and when they lost interest in the conversation they didn't see any need to say "goodbye" or "thank you" since they never felt any sense of connection with or obligation to the humans on the other end. It wasn't a civil conversation it was strictly a business transaction. So they simply wandered away to listen to their ipods. Get used to it, it is soon to be all the rage.

Even when your face to face most of them are too busy with their electronics to give you the courtesy of their attention. Damn I'm getting old [ROFL1]

I have been here a while, but don't post much. I will say that all of the people I have met from this board are about the most polite and respectful group around. Try buying or selling something on craigslist. It will give you a new and better perspective on what goes on here.

I remember watching my kids playing Oregon Trail when they were young. What was up with that game? It seemed like every third time they went hunting, they shot their self. I like history, but were the pioneer settlers that unsafe with their weapons handling or were their choice in firearms so poor that they had a one in three chance of getting shot while deer hunting?

I turn 36 this summer, getting old. Also I never shot myself playing that game? Did they have better luck with "Where in the World is Carma Sandiego"?
Sorry for getting off track on your thread, but I agree with Sniper7. Itall depends on the person. T-Slice is a good example he is 19 just went in the Marines and a great guy to do business with. Its all how your raised.[Stooge]

This is a remarkably civil site. I'm quite happy to be banned from ARF.com. I mostly lurk on some other sites. There are some serious hatreds and feuds on a lot of gunboards and I won't play those games.

At 24, I believe in common courtesy, owning up to one's word, following through, holding doors open, etc. I see a lot of that stuff absent with people older than me even. I think it's just a lot of selfishness with people, people aren't "neighborly" anymore.

I don't answer PM's because it's too much trouble to do so.

Which is WHY I have my email address posted in my profile - what I dont understand is why there are so many people who don't want email contact via the website!

I can get my email on my phone and answer it, I DO get a notification email from ar15co, but I have to log into the website to answer it - pain in the ass.

So my posts always list my email, and my profile is email enabled and i say to contact me via email. Once a guy PM'd me about something for sale, and I went to look at my post - and is said "email contact please" (sic) and he PM'd me like six times in one day. I was at work and unable to answer...

ended up getting a "you are an a##hole" pm from him by the end of the day.

So PM'ing has never worked well for me, but I do try to answer them when I get near a PC.

People have many reasons for their wanting anonymity.

Us old farts have a way of dealing with that. I have had many a young clerk talking or playing with there phone when I come to the register.

I just wait. They ring it up and put out their hand all the while talking on there phone. I had one once stop talking long enough to go "WHAT?" I replied that I was taught not to talk when someone was talking and I am just waiting for you to finish your call. :) Was he ever pissed off. Now if I come into the store that clerk always puts down the phone before I get to the counter.;)

Hell, I think it's rude when the CUSTOMER is on the phone at the checkout, but like you, I've never ran into the clerk being on the phone, not sure what i'd do, that may warrant wasting the fuel to take my business elsewhere.
