If anyone was on the fence or thinking about getting a lifetime habitat stamp you better get it quick. $200.25 is the cost for the 2010 license year which goes till march 31.
they raise it after that to 300.25. Bullshit in my opinion but that's the way it is apparently. I just got mine. Hopefull they take $10 off from my 2010 purchases and refund my $10 from spring turkey they charged.

You are forced to buy them each year to go along with your hunting licenses. Lifetime means you pay a big fee now and don't have to pay every year, worry about fee increases etc. Pretty good deal if you hunt every year, especially since you generally need 2...

What particularly offends me about these is that if I already paid for my 2 stamps for the year but wanted to take my wife on a picnic into a state park, we'd have to buy one for her too.

Hunters/anglers cover the brunt of these fees and while everyone enjoying the use of state parks, wildlife areas, etc. are SUPPOSED to have one, most hikers, mtn bikers, etc. DON'T ever buy one yet reap the supposed benefits afforded by these stamps. This is on top of the entry/use fees. When my wife and I camped at the Cheyenne Mtn State Park (CMSP) last summer, we were never asked if we had these stamps, but had I wanted to do any sort of hunting/fishing (okay, they have nothing like that available @ CMSP, but you get the idea), they would have insisted I have the stamp(s). This place is loaded with day hikers and mtn bikers.

These stamps are nothing more than another TAX on hunters/anglers.

This increase in the cost of the lifetime stamp makes me wonder if the cost of the annual stamps will also be increasing. My guess is they will end up rising to $7.00 or $7.50/ea.

At the current rate I'm paying of $10/yr, it would take me 30 years to break even for paying the new lifetime rate (20 years for the existing rate). I think I'll just stick with my annual stamps.

division of wildlife requires the purchase of a habitat stamp with the first 2 hunting licenses a year.

also new for 2011, they changed the cost from $5 per license (you buy 2 in a year if you get 2 licenses), to now $10 for 1 habitat stamp but you only have to buy one.

so for most people the $10 a year doesn't change since most of us buy more than 1 license. (think small game combo (fish/hunt) and a big game license.

now they are doubling their money on the people who just buy a single license like a small game of fishing or combo license.

the $200 lifetime stamp made sense for me because I am 25, so it would basically be 20 years of current costs to make my money back, something I will hopefully have no problem doing. but at $300 for a lifetime...that is bullshit. you have to hunt 31 years to save money (of course at current rates without hikes).

now I can see them raising the habitat stamp in 5 years to $15, then in 5 more years to $20. thus my savings will increase with this purchase.

DOW also gets the hikers and bicyclists in a lot of areas where they have to buy a habitat stamp as well. so at least some of the anti-hunters are getting money sucked from them for hunting purposes!
