I would like the opinions of anyone who owns one of these little guns before i go buy one. I really want the 7.62 caliber.

I grew up shooting the Mini14 and 10/22, and am a big Ruger fan, so please don't take my response the wrong way.

If you want 7.62, why not go with an AK? For the price of a Mini 30, you could have a nice AK, that you know will be reliable and nearly indestructible. With that said, I have never shot a Mini 30, so I don't have an opinion on it. If it's anything like the 14, it should serve you well. Sorry i'm not an owner of one, but wanted to weigh my opinion.

The mini-30's like American made brass case ammo. Close to 100% reliability with those. The reason I say close is with factory mags it is 100% but the poor quality of aftermarket hi caps is very poor and you will need a few to find one that works reliably. Back in the day when Ruger would not sell hi-cap mags for the Mini's it sucked. At least now you can buy factory 20 rounders.

Now with steel case com block ammo reliability is poor. This can be easily fixed with a Wolff heavy duty hammer spring. The com block primers are too hard for the factory spring.

Anything else you'd like to know?

Sounds like the AK is the way to go. Thanks group!

for the price and being able to buy cheap mags and the cheaper steel cased ammo I say AK
