Trying to find a AK smith or a good gun smith around the Denver area to modify a Saiga 12. Looked on line but I don't know any GS's in the area personally.

Looking to move and add new trigger group, as well as a stock and pistol grip.

Anyone know of anyone in the area?

It's very easy to do a Saiga conversion at home by yourself. If you google it there tons of tutorials online (there's even an entire fourm dedicated to it).

I did my S12 by myself last year and it turned out awesome.

I'll put in another vote for BP Tactical. He did some great work on my ARs.
I am the type of person that tends to get upset when small parts and springs go flying while trying to disassemble or reassemble things.
Plus BP has a lot of the machining tools for a good professional looking modification / build.

Thanks for all the BP support [Coffee]

I would do it myself, but I'm not that failure with the AK platform.
I can practically strip a AR all the way down with my eyes closed. But after having the bolt catch getting stuck in the receiver of the Saiga I was more than frustrated when I could fix it and the bolt was stuck.

If you can strip an AR all the way down with your eyes closed, you are more than qualified to tackle a Saiga conversion... trust me. Some Aks are made by people in caves with hammers and chisels.[Egypt]

FWIW, I had a Saiga 12, .223, .762 and a .308 all converted for me before I took it on by myself. I was trying to convince myself that is was too hard to do by myself. But, after I did it... it's anything BUT hard. And it gives you a good sense of satisfaction.

But, if you really want it done right... send it off to Red Jacket Firearms and have it done the exact way you want.

BP, what would you charge to do a conversion? I've got s friend who wants to get his Saiga 5.45 done.

here's a photo I just took on the floor of my cave where I did the conversion [LOL]

The hardest part was installing the trigger guard and cutting the hole for the pistol grip. Tromix makes a trigger guard / PG combo that you can just bolt on to the existing holes in the receiver and don't have to drill/cut anything. I had that one on for a bit and it worked great, but I'm a bit of an AK purist and didn't like the angled trigger guard. So I went with this one because it's the traditional square one and the selector stop works perfect. Plus, cutting the hole for the pistol grip nut/screw makes the pistol grip solid as a rock... just like it's supposed to be.

Installing this was by far the hardest part of the conversion, but if you go with the Tromix one... it's the easiest part of the conversion.

Here's the Tromix one (you have to use a Tapco saw pistol grip with it).

Here's a link to all the parts you'd need for a basic conversion.

Do it yourself and buy ammo with the money you save.
