AR vs. FAL?

A couple of mates and I decided to have some fun at the range on Sunday, and ended up shooting the Viking Tactics 1-5 Rifle drill; 3 targets at 5 meters with 15 rounds.

We were trying to see if you could run a FAL as fast as an AR...

Both FAL and AR15 have 16" barrels and A2 flash hiders, both are shooting mil spec ammo 150gr and 55gr respectively.

For comparison I also shot it was a 10.5" AR15 with A2 flash hider.

Not at all scientific but interesting none the less. These runs (out of several that didn't) had good hits in the A zone on an IPSC target.

Fastest run of the day was with the .308 FAL...

I know some that are very quick with the Fal. I love all of mine. Last couple of years I went to a match that had "drop 12" match. This one was at 150 yards. 10 6" steels placed 10' apart. Out of 25 or so 10 had ar's a couple of G3's and the rest fal's. I was second with mine beat by another.

The funnest thing was the one guy with an AR that was very good but so cocky that he loaded 12 rounds in the mag. he missed one and had to change mags and wound up 20th or so. :)

You need to come to fal fest this year in Raton.
