I'm getting close to actually putting some kits together. I'd like to Gun Kote the NDS receivers. I picked up a Horror Freight sandblast cabinet awhile ago and it's time to use it. Anybodu know sandblast supply places close to Denver, ideally south. I'd like to use 120 or 100 grit aluminum oxide.

Thanks I'll give them a call in the morning and see what is in stock.
I did bluing on a couple of guns years ago and it looked great. I used Starblast but made the mistake of using the used up stuff to grit my sidewalks over ice. I was a mess.

Pretty good. I have the rear trunnions drilled but not driven out. I'm going to take a break tomorrow and try removing the barrel from the one that sheared the pin.

I buy from them too, they're right behind Colorado and I70 on the north side, near the Eagle Claw factory.
Having blasted and refinished a few things, I would recommend against glass beads, the surface created is too smooth for GOOD adhesion of your finish... I use Starblast 1500xl.
Also remember when applying your finish the metal should be heated, you totally eliminate running and get better adhesion. Remember that you're spraying a coolling media on the heated metal, so you might want to reheat it after each pass. One pass, examine... one pass, examine - you can't go too slow with spray on refinishing.

I did some pistols years ago with TR Gun Kote blue and they looked great. I'll be baking whatever I coat. I hope my wife doesn't kill me. I remember it being a bit smelly. I was single back then and, in some ways, life was simpler.
Gun Kote warned against glass beads so that's why I got the alum oxide. I hope I finally get some time one this. My weekends have been filled with everything but chances to work on my AK's.
