Another billion reasons (http://www.armytimes.com/news/2011/02/ap-iraq-baghdad-city-wants-money-for-us-damage-021711/) we need to worry about ourselves instead of everyone else.

So essentially, they want us to pay them for protecting them while we put them in power.

[Eek3] Really?

Baghdad city officials seek $1B for war damage

The Associated Press

BAGHDAD — The Baghdad city government is demanding that the United States pay $1 billion and apologize for damage to the city caused by blast walls erected during the nearly eight-year long war.
In an official statement posted late Wednesday on its website, the local government says U.S. forces had marred the “beautiful city.”
It says the blast walls “put up at the pretext of security” damaged the sewage system and sidewalks, caused traffic jams and paralyzed business.
City officials want an official apology and $1 billion to pay for the damage.
Thousands of blast walls snake for miles across the capital, protecting buildings and military compounds and sealing off whole neighborhood

So. Let's do the math. A JDAM costs what, $18k or so? We could just pay em back with 55,500 of those or so.

Well we could send in our commander and chief apologizer but as for the money they are SOL unless they want to trade it for their oil rights.

Naw, we should always reach out to other countries so we can manipulate their government, then apologize, after we get our selves in deep shit.

Why take care of the homeland.

Offer to remove them this way, or let them remove them all by themselves at no cost to us. Either way, I'm good...

we did put those in place, at the behest of the Iraqis, using Iraqi resources, and Iraqi Companies Using Iraqi Concrete funded by the U.S.

Thats makes them theirs in my book! :D

Hey! It's the Pottery Barn method of foreign policy. We broke it - we bought it. Maybe we can sell Iraq on Craigslist. Under the free section.

How about we bill them for all services rendered over the past 8 years....The cost of sending every troop there, every bullet used, every dime we paid to secure their freedom, every school/hospital/mosque/church/government building we built for them, every civilian worker there to improve their country, etc.... shall I continue or have I listed enough that we should never have to pay for oil again?

Are you saying that our Beloved Sniper7 is predictable or are you saying that he has a narrow view on Middle-Eastern policy?

When I read the subject I wasnt sure if this was going to be about money or China

send an email to them with 1 billion "you're welcome" in it and call it even

personally... with the way things went and their inability to smell the sweet air of freedom... get the engineers in there with some combat dozers and push the wall in from all sides until they meet in the center

then let the animals everywhere else in the country kill each other

Just noticing a trend is all. I know I said similarly stupid stuff post 9/11 when I had an anger. However in retrospect, take a deep breathe, everything will be alright, let's not advocate killing a few million innocent people.

I Agree with you Hoosier.
Most of the People in that region I met are just everyday schmoes trying to farm enough to feed their families and sell a little to and keep clothes on the kids.

Then, just as in every region or religion, you have a few nutjobs that want to pervert ideologies or beliefs to their own ends.

Why do so many of those "few nutjobs" end up in leadership/political positions?

I think it is a deeply ingrained psychological need to control their environment and be esteemed or feared by those around them.

I've often wondered why people in this country are willing to spend millions of dollars running for positions which pay about $200k per year. Congressman have to run every two years, so they are continually raising money and most Senators are in office for more than 20 years. It's crazy. Most politicians have more in common with high class hookers than they do with average citizens.

Politics has been called Showbiz for Ugly People. Fame, power, money (illegally in office, legally after). It must be a total rush to have power like that. I've met some CEO's of big companies and they really enjoy the power part.

Sensible and moderate people rarely prostitute themselves or extort the weak to further their gains beyond their needs.

someone here once said Something like "when was the last time you saw a moderate go out and kill a family?"

meh...I have no problem with it. this shithole of the world, the birthplace of terrorism, the harboring of terrorists, thousands of years of fighting and battles. just a few tons of metal can end it all.

I said the same thing after 9/11 with anger, I say the same thing now, only 10 years later with a better understanding of who they are and what they are about.

Innocent people are killed every day, the liberals advocate for it with abortion, we fund it with our tax dollars.
