Usually cause those of us who live were the coyotes used to be killed em.

About 8-9 years ago we got 4 on our and the neighbors property. Have only seen one in the area since then. He was about 1/2 mile away and in high gear headed for Wyoming.

OTOH I do know a guy who was having a few problems w/ coyotes, lives south of Deertrail in Bijou creek area. I'll check with him and see if he wants to forward his contact info.

Now if his mom sees the pic of him drinking beer with or without the gun he's probably grounded for a whole month.

I'd hardly call my post Eddie Eagle.

What other details do I need? Rifle in one hand, Coors Original in the other, and a dead Coyote lying on the ground. Just trying to help him out, in case there are any DOW Officers that browse around on this site.

We hunted Del Norte 1/19/11 to 1/25/11. Great weather. We left just as it went south. We selected the area because of the vast Rio Grande National Forest surrounding Del Norte and South Fork. As we never hunted the area we stopped at Doc's Sporting Goods in South Fork. We were informed that the public lands were difficult to access and that they were not as productive as the lowlands that are privately owned. He directed us to Silo Ranch, a couple of miles west of Del Norte. We stopped by but no one home. We just went down the road (160) to the next house on the northside and made inquiries there. They were more than hospitable and permitted us to hunt their land. More than that they directed us to an area where they dump dead beef (never thought to ask how they happened to die.) So for most of our hunt we were over bait - we did call a few in. Altogether we had seventeen sightings (could have seen the same animal more than once.). Of that there were five missed shots - not me! three missed opportunities - my cousin is blind, and four down. The others were a trot by. The folks are friendly. We did catch up with the owner of SILO ranch and he gave us permission to hunt his land, largest land owner in the area according to Doc. Plenty of coyotes. The only downside is the time in transit. If you try it out let me know how the hunting worked out for you.

I hunt that general area (unit 80) for elk and deer in the fall.

Never considered going down there for yote hunting. Might have to reconsider things once I get my finances stabilized.

Ralph- I REALLY need for you to add your location to your profile ASAP. I've PM's you on this once or twice already. PLEASE get it done.

I've seen quite a few up in Red Feather, not sure where there is a good location, but might want to check out the area if you ever head up that way.

Just south of Delta Colorado there is a chicken processing facility. They dump there "chicken silage" right up against the BLM. Absolutely irresistible to the dog! have had full moon nights with 8-10 dogs come in. my $.02
