Not a bad deal if you like those stocks... I'd be worried about the bedding though.

Not a bad looking left hand unit.

I personally think it is an OK deal, I would ask if the weaver bases in the photo are included. If you really want it, I think it is a good deal. Not great, considering the stock is not in that high of a demand. Personally I would not have noticed the ad at all unless it was $500

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but I was curious if you wound up gettint this rifle?

I've been toying with the idea of getting that Choate stock for my Savage 10.

What I've been waiting for is to hear from someone that has actually shot with one and find out what their impressions are.

I was mainly concerned about how removing all that weight would affect felt recoil, and therefore follow-up shots. I was interested in overall impressions and pros/cons after that.

Thanks,

Matt

Yeah I ended up with that rifle in my collection. Nice gun too.

The Choate stock is the first and only stock that I have shot of that type, so as far as comparison I don’t have anything to compare it to.

It is a comfortable stock for me, and seems to be very well built. I don’t see it falling apart anytime soon.

As far as removing weight? I guess I don’t understand what you are after there.

I am sure that stock weights more than the factory wood stock. And with the weight of that rifle you don’t feel a whole lot of recoil. I would say the felt recoil is somewhere around the same as the AR, pretty much nothing there for felt recoil.

Overall I like it and am happy with it.

Bad assumption on my part. I thought the Choate stock was lighter than the factory wood stock.

Thanks for the feedback!
