View Full Version : South Site Question about location.

I'm trying to go to the South Site on Tuesday morning. I have a couple of questions though.

1. I think I have the location, but from searching on the site, it seems no one actually posts it. Is there a reason? Is it a super secret facility? :D I don't want to post it, if it really is a well kept secret. If someone would like to PM me with the location, or asking me what I have, that's fine too.

2. Is this actually a range, or just an open area people go to shoot? Meaning, are there hours of operation, equipment, fees or is a run what ya brung kind of deal?

I pack out what I brought in, so I will leave it in at least as good of condition as when I got there.

Thanks,
Hayes

Super secret spot in NF that has some hills you shoot into. I only charge $100 a day for the key to the gate.[ROFL1]

That matches up with what I found. Thank you gnihcraes. Any info on the other questions?

Its a spot, or a site as its called. Its a place not too far off the road that plenty of people use to shoot. There's 3-4 areas with "berms". Bring your own stuff (targets, stands, bench/table/mat) and leave with what you brought.

Also, if your car is low to the ground, tread lightly.

Be careful where you park to shoot. We were down there a few weekends back, some guys drove right past where we were shooting, and parked down range of us to setup their spot. Not cool. We were shooting into the mountain, but they were off to the left and slightly over the hill, they changed their mind and moved thankfully.

It should be fairly obvious where to park, right? I don't mind a small hike if necessary... I have been warned about that though.

We are taking a truck, so we should be fine.

When I went there for the first time, I used the GPS coordinates posted by a member. They sent me about a mile south and 1/2 mile west right to a very large sign that said NO SHOOTING OF FIREARMS ALLOWED !
I still don't know if this was the poster's idea of a joke or someone was giving me a very warm welcome to this forum. [Coffee]

ha ha, that's funny. Do you have the actual coordinates?

No, I didn't save them after finding the site, go to the thread about the " Frozen nuts shoot in the beginning of Dec. 2010. There are some good written directions to find it. Write them down as I did for a back up. There is also a couple of posts withthe GPS coordinates, I forgot which ones I used.

It is under the Club Shooting Events section.

I found it, thank you. Matches up with the directions I found last night, so I am slightly more confident in finding this place tomorrow.

I went shooting out there today. Great area, missed the turn the first time around, but no major problems finding the place. One guy was up there when we got there, we said hello, played show and tell with our weapons and shot the hell out of some 9, .40, .22 and .223. Cleaned everything we brought in and picked up a little extra trash. There was a family shooting up over the hill, but we never encountered them. Good day overall and a great place to shoot. For the record, for anyone who wants to know, we called the local PD and they cleared us to shoot. My shooting buddy was a little worried about driving that far to find out we weren't allowed to shoot. They advised us not to be there any earlier than 9 A.M. though.

PD said that? I have been up there many times prior to 9am. Local pd must have a house up in the hills and doesn't want to be woken up early.

They never said we couldn't be up there earlier than 9, but said that the housing community 1.5 miles North complains when people are out earlier than that. More of a respect thing than a rule, I guess.

Hayes saw that you live in Aurora wondered how far from the Quiency Res. this place is, and or if you would be up for a meet and take me out there. My brother and I have been looking for this place on private land or something on Gun Club Rd (hoping this is the place you went to). Didn't find it cause we were in a car and almost got stuck. Drop me a line back, thanks.

Lex, The place I went to is not by Gun Club. I'm actually in Littleton now, and it's about an hour and forty-five minutes from me (the opposite direction of Aurora).

Thinking about heading up there tomorrow morning, just want to throw some clays and plink some .22. Don't want to step on any toes though... hoping its not too crowded.

Nah man, this "south site" being discussed is way down north of Woodland Park. You have to go to Colorado Springs, then west to Woodland Park, then north from there. It's a jaunt from where you are.

It's only about an hour and a half if you go through Pike's forest instead of going to the springs first.

that's not true, if you go through Deckers, you don't have to go through the Springs.
