This is pretty gruesome. What a way to die.
THE GAZETTE - Colorado Springs
A tow-truck driver was killed Wednesday morning after being dragged more than a mile by a sport-utility vehicle he was attempting to tow from an apartment complex in east Colorado Springs, police said.
The victim — whose name wasn't released — was pronounced dead at Memorial Hospital Central about 11:30 a.m., police said.
John Stellabotte, the owner of J & J Towing, said police told him his driver was in the process of towing an illegally parked vehicle at the Hill Park Apartments at 360 N. Murray Blvd. when the owner jumped inside and took off.
Sgt. Steve Noblitt said the driver drove away in the sport-utility vehicle that was about to be towed — but did not address details of how the victim became ensared or whether the driver knew what was happening.
Witnesses said at least one of the man's legs were caught by a chain, and that he was screaming loudly.
Klaus Klapac, owner of Klaus Towing of Colorado Springs, said Allen Rose was among the drivers who worked for J & J Towing. A spokesman for Memorial Hospital confirmed that a man by that name died in the emergency room this morning.
Police spokesman Sgt. Darrin Abbink said police were interviewing several "persons of interest," including an occupant of the sport-utility vehicle.
The police Major Crimes unit was sent to investigate.
The victim was found at Babcock Road and Platte Avenue, just west of Powers Boulevard and 1.2 miles from the scene of the tow-job-gone-bad, police said. Blood streaked long stretches of Platte Avenue, and boots, a tattered jacket, a ball cap, wallet and other articles were scattered along the road.
"A crime scene this size stretches our resources thin," Noblitt said.
After the dragging victim fell off, the driver of the sport-utility vehicle turned around in the median on Platte and reversed direction, Noblitt said.
The vehicle — a black GMC — was stopped at Bridger Place and Bridger Drive.
A homeowner in the area said he went outside and saw officers interviewing a female who was apparently in the SUV. It's unclear whether that person was the driver, and police have released no information about the SUV's driver.
Many streets remain closed, and police were urging motorists to avoid the area. The traffic disruption was expected to continue through rush hour.
Two witnesses outside Family Liquor in the 400 block of Murray Boulevard saw the man being dragged behind the vehicle. His leg appeared to be caught in a chain, and he was "screaming and yelling — I felt his pain," one witness said.
One of them ran after the vehicle in an unsuccessful attempt to stop it. The vehicle turned right and disappeared down a frontage road that runs south of Platte Avenue, still dragging the screaming man, he said.
Dominique Morneau, 15, said she was walking out of the Walgreen's at Platte Avenue and Murray Boulevard with her grandmother when she saw that man being dragged about 10 to 15 feet behind the truck.
"Our condolences go straight out to the family and the loved one," Morneau said.
A police cordon surrounded the Hill Park Apartments complex, preventing anyone from entering.
A man who answered the phone in the apartment management office declined to comment.

That must be a horrendous and hellatious way to die.
As brokenscout said, that particular area is NOT a good part of town.
Given that this driver turned around in the median as soon as the victim fell off, I suspect that she KNEW he was back there the entire time. Her life is over as well, but at least she still gets to breathe without the gruesome torture she subjected the victim to.
I just can't even fathom this sort of thing.
Has mankind really fallen to this point where someone would do this? Apparently so.
Repomen while hard working and honest~ don't deserve to die like that. They should die breaking into someones garage taking a collector car.
Makes me sick.
+1...Prayers for the family of the Tow Driver.
I have witnesses I was not in the springs by then.. I didn't do it!
I saw this yesterday as I drive home along Platte from work around 4:30 p.m. CSI and a ton of cops were out there. On the East side of Academy running along Platte there was a HUGE red stain (drag marks) for about 200 YARDS... poor guy. At the end was a huge pool with his clothes just lumped in a pile and a few suits just standing around talking and taking pics. I thought it was a deer hit or a motorcycle accident or something. To learn that someone was dragged behind a car because someone didn't want their illegally parked car towed is just heartbreaking.
I knew Allen very well. He and John Stellabotte do towing and vehicle maintenance for my business. His wife used to work for my business as well. I'm pretty sick over this. Allen was a good guy and didn't deserve this torture.
Allen was in the Army years ago, and was a fellow gun enthusiast. I'm going to see if his wife needs a way to sell what he has in his collection, and if she wants, I will post the sales to try and get her the best deal. I don't know what he had left in his collection, but I'm sure she will need the money.
Seeing his vest and his favorite hat on the side of the road on the news last night was disturbing. He was in my office just last week.
The idiot who did this needs to go away for a long, long time.

Fixed it for you
I Pulled for APT here in Denver for almost a year.
There is a sort of brotherhood. We have all dealt with the screaming irate customers, burning tarmac and freezing cold.
No Man deserves this. The Bitch needs to be put down like a rabid dog.

I sure hope the idiot goes away but it won't comfort his family.
If the widow does want to sell his guns maybe this group should try to get a raffle going. We could even use a friendly FFL to make it squeaky clean. I'd buy tickets and I'd be happy to sell them to other gun people I know.

I initially thought that maybe she didn't know he was back there. But eyewitness accounts on the TV News are saying she stopped for a brief moment and looked in the mirrors behind her as she was turning around in the median.
SHE KNEW HE WAS BACK THERE BECAUSE PEOPLE YELLED AT HER AND TOLD HER TO STOP BECAUSE SOMEONE WAS STUCK ON HER TRUCK.
She just didn't give a damn.

That just bumped the felony level up quite a bit. It would be sickening to see her get off with a light sentence but this makes it look like there will no possibility of saying she didn't know. This might be stretch for 1st degree murder but the DA will probably have a pile of big felonies to run consecutively so she'll never get out.

Say what you will, But I think we could use a good old fashioned Arabic-Style Public stoning on this bitch.

Still too good and quick (stone to the head)... I say a Biblical "eye for an eye" and chain her to a truck and drive around town until she's dead. *redneck* "Dead I say! D-E-E-D, dead!"

Can you read minds, i was just thinking this a I read this. We could draw it out a bit by using smaller rocks.
Burn this bitch with a blow torch, until she says sorry, then keep going until she disappears from this earth.
Terrible what happened no one deserves this. RIP

I am so saddened and sickened by this. My prayers go out to Allen and his family. So...unnecessary.
Coupled with what is going on in this country and around the world it seems the world has lost its mind and the end isn't far off...

Thge rumors I heard yesterday were that this "female" is actually a 15 year old girl.
My guess is that she took (translated: stole) mommy and daddy's SUV to go to her boyfriends apartment for sex. Once she got done and realized her parents vehicle was about to get towed and she'd be caught, she did everything in her power to get the vehicle away from the tow driver.

If this turns out to be the case;
Sounds to me like she's acting like a big girl. Driving, having sex, all that sort of big girl activity...she can be charged as an adult and act like a big girl there, too.

Underaged driver stole a motor vehicle, and used it to murder a man because she didn't want mommy and daddy knowing what a slut she is?
Can I put the needle in her arm?

Ha ha ha. Byte me Stryke. It's no joke. Not a popular job, but somebody has to do it and this man paid with his frakkin' LIFE because a piece of sh-- didn't want the tow bill. A husband and father stone dead over perhaps a couple of hundred dollars. ha ha.
This was such an unnecessary life lost. My thoughts are with his family.
Society is breeding people with a COMPLETE lack of responsibility. A person isn't just responsible for themselves, which most people today can't manage though their life SHOULD depend on it. But they also are responsible for others, though most are so self-absorbed they cannot even fathom how or why their actions could affect others.
People today need a reminder that their actions have consequences. One word needed here-JUSTICE.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Colorado Springs police announced that the driver of the car who dragged a man to his death is facing charges of manslaughter.Police identified her as 32-year-old Detra Farries. She was living in Denver, but it's unclear if she was moving back to Colorado Springs.
Farries' husband, Terroll, was sentenced to four-years in prison for a hit-and-run death of woman in Denver in February 2009.
Farries does have a criminal background in Colorado. Court records pulled by TARGET 13 showed she was charged with driving while her license was suspended in 2003. She also had numerous motor vehicle violations. She also had charges of harassment and forcible entry in 2002.
Malika Clark, Farries' niece, told TARGET 13, that Farries is upset and has been getting death threats. "She is scared, she didn't know she was dragging this man behind her." http://www.krdo.com/news/26991243/detail.html
what a fucking shocker. I Say she gets a single bullet, a gun and 3 minutes alone to do the honorable thing.

Police said Rose had attached a chain to the vehicle to tow it when the SUV driver got in the car and started driving away.Investigators said the chain snapped, and the tow operator was somehow caught in the part of the chain attached to the SUV. Rose was dragged for more than a mile. And she claims she didn't know?
It takes allot of force to snap a Y chain.
The bitch knew what she was doing.
Fry her
Clark told TARGET 13 that she wanted to help people. "Her grandmother inspired her to get out and help people." Clark didn't know why Farries dropped out of the program or why she didn't go back to school.
