I just sent my resume off to a company from an ad on Craigslist, looking for armed security. Do you have to already have ccw/chp for these type of jobs? Anyone know around how much they pay? I need to find some better employment than what I have. $12.00/hr has been helpful, but realistically, I need to be making more.
Depends on if you are carrying openly or concealed, and in what jurisdiction. Denver, for instance, requires an Armed Guard license for open carry, and an additional CHP for concealed carry. Also, be prepared to carry your own liability insurance (3 million minimum recommended).

I've worked armed security, don't expect a whole lot more than $12 per hour if that much.
Plus all permits where my out of pocket expense not the companies.

Owned a company for a while.
Only a few cities require a guard license, and then only if you are posted in that city. So your company may have 30 posts in Denver and 30 outside. As a matter of practicality, most companies require you to get a license just in case they want to work you in Denver.
Let's see...
The last time I checked Colorado Springs, Denver, Greenwood Village, Cherry Hills Village (unarmed guards only) and Arvada has license requirements. Of those in particular Colorado Springs has different requirements for an armed guard license. MOST cities regulations state that under no circumstances is a uniformed guard to carry concealed, even with a permit.
12 dollars an hour is sorta premium for an armed guard. Typically you start at around 8 for unarmed and move up for armed. Some companies pay more depending on the contract, and some contracts require experience and/or police backgrounds and pay commensurately more.
You wont get rich doing security, but if you're going to school a night watchmans job is ideal.
3million umbrella policy?
yeah, sure - never met any guard who did that. It was prohibitively expensive considering what your wage is. Sure it's cheap if you're an NRA instructor, but if you're an active armed guard the rate goes through the roof.
