Anyone have one? I am looking for a good red dot that wont break the bank and I found a half way good deal on a new one. But my question is without a risor is it co-witness, and with the small risor its 1/3? Are they good?

I have a 512 on my carbine and it's co-witness just the way it sits on my flatop.
I'm not sure if that answers your question ? I've added a pic to show you what I mean.

So its a "co-witness" as it is, so if you use an ARMS mount etc it would be lower 1/3rd? I dont think it would bother me witnessing against the front sight. I have never had an Eotech so I am just asking and comparing prices of Eotech VS aimpoint with mount etc.

I've had lithium AA's in mine for a couple of years now BUT I'm not using the Eotech all that much due to funds for ammo. [Beer]

With cheapo no name batteries I get decent life, good batteries lasted a long time, but still much less than Aimpoint. I think it is personal, but I much prefer my Eotech.

Well I went and bought one at lunch, and sure as shit an Aimpoint popped into the classifieds at like 4 [ROFL1]
Whats the best batteries to get?
buy the lithium energizer batteries. have had those in mine for 3 years and still going strong. they are also lighter than standard AA's

If the 512 is one of the "AA" battery models, pay the extra few bucks and get the lithium " AA's". If you are a tight wad, get the 36 battery mega pack off brand at the dallor store.

I would rather get the lithiums if they are the best. I dont know crap about batteries! Wal mart? Will rechargeables work?

If you mount the eotech directly on your rail it will co-witness in the senter like this:

If you mount the eotech on a riser and the BUIS stays on the receiver you will co-witness in the lower 1/3 like this:

All a matter of personal preference.
BTW: Friends don't let friends use ARMS mounts! Buy Laure!!!

I tried running the silver & green Energizer rechargables in mine & they might have lasted 100 hrs. Compare that to the 1100 hrs advertised for the lithium AAs.
I wouldn't feed it cheapy batteries unless you're going to take them out every time your range session wraps up. A leaky battery that ruins your sight isn't much of a deal.
I traded for a slightly used 552 (essentially a 512 with NV capability) recently. It works great, and so far I'm doing fine with regular Energizers. But, since I only have about 25 hours on the batteries so far, I have no idea if they'll go near the 600 hours claimed. As others posters have said, I get absolute co-witness with my irons and no riser on the EOTech. WB
