View Full Version : Bicycle ride anyone ? (looking for a place for our 2nd ride)

Ok, we need to get to gether for a bicycle ride on some weekend. (I can probably do weekends and some fridays with some pre arrangements)

I've got road and Mtb. I prefeer a MTB ride.

I've got my EBB (Evil Black Bike(Cannondale Prophet)) and a Cannondale road race bike (circa 1989..but she still goes!(I overhauled her last year)) :)

I think we should start out easy, assess everyones initial capabilities (not to mention its the start of the 'season' and a few of us may not be in the greatest shape) ;)

I do have a MTB that I can loan, but it does NOT have any suspension (Trek 950)

I have a roof and rear mounted bike racks so we can 'carpool' if needed (4 comfortably in my suv (including myself))

I have and suggest anyone going have the following:

Helmet
gloves
repair kit (tools/multitool, pump, patchkit, tire levers)
water (bottles and/or camelbak)
eye protection
snack (~Cliff bar)

Suggested:
Small first aid kit (I haven't put one together, but will soon)
1 or 2 spare tubes
sunscreen

I am up for it. Lare of the Bear is a good easy ride. You can make it as long as you want or as short as you want.

There is one good climb at the begining and then it is just short rolling hills for as far as you want to go. There are not to many technical spots most of it is just a single track rolling dirt trail with a tech thrown in here and there.

I rode in 12 miles on it one time and turned around.

Sounds interesting. I own a Santa Cruz Heckler and my wife rides a superlight. We have not hit the trails in a long time though. We did Hail Valley Ranch once and we took a long weekend to Fruita a few years ago (some nice trails there).

Friday/Saturday are probably my only days though. Mostly Saturday I think.

My bike definitely needs some maintenance/overhaulage before I hit the trails. I'm definitely down for a ride, but not this soon. ;)

I vote for this one then. It is in Morrison so not far from Denver. It is a easy trail. A real good trail for the first season ride.

The1andOnlyKC
04-17-2006, 21:50
We were talking about the previous weeks for the Monthly Shoot here and then the 3 gun match in Aurora.

If you would like to join us you are more than welcome. Any ideas on what trail?

Does the 29th work for you?

Man, I rode about three miles at Deer Creek Canyon today, on the west side of the hogback. I am waaaaaaay outta shape!! I work out a couple times a week, but it's mostly for strength/bodybuilding and I don't do much cardio, so I was huffin' and puffin' today.

Damn I felt good though, I'm gonna be riding a lot more again. And my bike fits into my truck without pulling the front wheel, so it's super convenient. :)

good.

Try Crossfit if you are looking for a good workout program. Its free all you need is the equipment. Guarantee it will increase strength/size and cardio....

www.crossfit.com

Here is todays Workout of the Day (WOD)

For Time
1 mile Run
100 Pull-ups
200 Push-ups
300 Squats
1 mile Run

Partition the pull-ups, push-ups, and squats as needed. Start and finish with a mile run. If you've got a twenty pound vest or body armor, wear it.

I just finished a few minutes ago It was tough. Mondays was even worse. and Tomorrow looks like another good again. They are trying to smoke us like cheap crack....

Asha'man
04-20-2006, 02:08
Good criminy, I can't do half that shit. Right now I can't even run at all because my knee is fucked up for some reason. I didn't injure it or anything, it just starts to hurt like hell after I run about a third of a mile. Gonna see the chiropractor on Monday.

Man, after looking through that site.....if you're not in shape after a couple months of that, you never will be. Pretty impressive stuff.

ok, we've got a date (saturday April 29)

we've got a location (Lair O' the Bear)

how about a time and location (to meet)?

I'm good all day but would prefer sometime in the AM.

I'm at a disadvantage as I've never been there.

so if anyone has a link for a map or gps fix.. post 'em here :)

the 29th I am good in the morning.

I have always been there around 6ish or 7ish in the AM that is a good time to ride because you dont have alot of people in your way when your coming down. You dont really see anyone when you get up there. But when you come down around 8 or so the traffic starts to pick up a little.

Ok so I dont know the names of the roads I just know how to get there.

It is as if you are going to Redrocks Park but go past that into Morrison. Then from Morrison it is up towards Ideldale. It is just pass Idledale. The name of the park is Lair O the Bear park it is just past Little bear park. It will be on the left hand side.

I used to have a trail paphlet for up there but cant find it. That little area right there is swamped with good riding trails.

I will see if I can find better Directions.

If we need to we can all meet up at the Park and right there on the north side of I70 at the Morrison exit.

who else is wants to ride?..we're not doing anything that'll kill ya or bust your ass.. [;)]

If you need a bike, I have an old school moutainbike with good components, I was riding this before I bought my EBB. The only "problem" with it (if you can call it a problem) is that there are no shocks front or rear.

You supply everything else.

c'mon, we'll have fun

Asha'man
04-24-2006, 22:56
How long a ride are we talking here? As I said earlier, I'm woefully out of shape still as far as biking goes, so I'm not sure how much I can do at this point.

Brian

The1andOnlyKC
04-25-2006, 02:23
we can make it as long as you want. I have riden in 12 miles before and then turned around.

There is a good climb getting started but once you are over that it isnt that bad just rolling hills. Coming back out doesnt take nearly as long as getting in there.

Asha'man
04-26-2006, 11:01
I should be able to give it a shot, assuming I'm not out late Friday night. :)

I am still up for it depending on what happens with the weather tonight. If it snows it makes it even more fun. I have ridden up there in the snow more than once. But its up to you guys.

Just bring an extra pair of shoes and shorts you will be fine.
