i strongly suggest anyone looking for a BOB check out an eberlestock. expensive, yes, but in my opinion well worth it. i just got a gunslinger II and freaking love it. i loaded it up with all of my backpacking stuff (food and stupid ass bear vault included) and it feels half as light as my rei flash pack did even though its heavier empty. carrying my carbine in the scabbard feels great since its right on the back, hardly even notice. very heavy duty design, great zippers. im guessing the phantom or operator would be even better since they are bigger and can carry more, but i just got molle pouches and attached them to the outside of the GSII so i can go light if i want, or heavy if needed.
if you get a chance to look at some somewhere, do it. as much as i am on a budget these days, sometimes i like spending the extra money and in this case i believe it was well spent.
by the way don't underestimate the size of the scabbard. if you don't use it for a rifle or fishing pole there is plenty of room to add lots of stuff. the pack is 2900 cu in but the scabbard adds to that significantly. i put all my clothes and my hammock in the scabbard no problem.
seriously, give them a look.
