Got this email from Rand Paul:

Dear fellow Patriot,
Nearly 1 million American rifles.
Banned by a stroke of Barack Obama’s pen.
In a move unprecedented in American history, the Obama Administration secretly banned the re-importation of nearly one million American made M1 Garand and Carbine rifles.
The M1 Garand, developed in the late 1930’s, carried the United States through World War II seeing action in every major battle.
General Patton at the time called the M1 Garand “the greatest battle implement ever devised.”
The rifle is largely credited with giving American soldiers the advantage and securing victory for the allies.
During the Korean War, nearly one million of these rifles were brought to South Korea and left with the South Korean government afterward.
Now, South Korea wants to give American gun collectors the chance to get their hands on this unique piece of history.
A piece of American history that Barack Obama would like to see go down the memory hole.
That’s why I need as many Americans as possible to put themselves on record opposing this gun ban by signing the Official Firearms Freedom Survey I’ve enclosed. http://www.nagr.org/M1_RP_Survey1.aspx?pid=oo

The most appealing part of this story is how each government agency bumps the questions to another government agency. The question will never be answered because everyone already knows the answer. This administration does not want the average citizen to own guns. If/when they are legally able to out law gun ownership, they will do so. Just my personal opinion.

If only they passed the buck as easily when trying to ban them. They would have been imported and passed down a generation by now.
I think its messed up that America gave them these guns and now they want to sell them back to us. Goes to show you the waste that goes on and needs to be addressed.
ETA: Also they are complaining about these guns holding dozens of rounds of ammo. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the Garand hold 8 rounds in a clip? The carbine holds more but its hardly an AK-47 or UZI looking gun that they are always afraid of.

Heard about this a year or so ago. What a darn shame. Most gangsters that I see in LODO carry M1 Garands and carbines. So why should we bring them in for the criminals to use in gang robberies and homicides???????

I don't believe I have ever heard of anyone committing a robbery with either a Garand or an M1 carbine. If anyone knows of one, I'd love to hear the story.

But denying the sale of these rifles to the American public had nothing to do with public safety. They don't believe "We" should have guns. When they get a chance to keep us from clinging to our Bibles or guns they will do so.

This was Obama's reason of banning import. The administration was afraid of these types of rifle's falling into "the wrong" hands... Their fucking 60 years old..Really?

And Clinton denied the reimportation of 200,000 M1's during his tenure.

The wrong hands? As far as the Democrats are concerned those would be the hands of any American citizen. They also believe that guns can only be used for hunting or committing crimes and for some of the animal rights activists, those are the same thing (hunting=crime).

Hopefully, the next administration will allow the South Koreans to sell us our old Garands and carbines so the CMP can sort and sell them to those of us who would like one.

What would a gang banger do with one anyway? No self respecting hoodlum would carry a rifle with a wooden stock. [Coffee]
