View Full Version : facebook stalkers
so i find that every time i go to facebook (witch is not to often ) people are trying to chat and there is always some sort of message (from different people) asking me whats up with this that or the other thing because of what they think they saw or heard on facebook . then there are the ex-girl friends , akk , i found that they go to my profile all the time just to check up on what im doin . so i was just wondering if anybody else has or is a facebook stalker . id like to hear some stories if your willing to share .
Turned mine off, it got too creepy.

What's Facebook? [Coffee] I do not understand how people demand all this privacy and then plaster ones self all over the net. [Bang] and then bitch about it when they get fired or something because they say the boss (or company) is a dipstick. [Tooth]

I use mine to keep in touch with friends and relatives.
the amount of privacy involved is up to the person setting up the account.
As with everything in life there is a potential for abuse.
And as with everything on the internet, you aren't anonymous, don't do anything you dont want everyone to know about.
consider all of those and you are OK

+1 great for reconnecting with old High School / home town friends. You can lock your privacy settings down.

I use mine mainly for family and to keep in touch with army buddies around the world. The settings are all private, which means they can't see any of my info unless they are my friend. I even set the pictures private (I think the default setting is that "friends of friends" can see your pictures...which is a lot of people when you think about it). I don't have any work info on mine either or actual location info.
If someone I don't like requests me as a friend, I don't confirm or deny, I just let it sit there so they can't ask again...

I work at a college campus - Facebook is how most of these people communicate, so it would be part of my life even if I didn't use it personally.
Facebook is really easy - don't say anything you wouldn't say to a newspaper reporter, and don't put any info on there that you don't want "that one person" (ex-girlfriend, stalker, etc) to see.
The privacy settings are great, but nothing is 100%, so simply control what you put up there.
I love seeing the great (or not so great) things that some of my old classmates and friends have done over the years, seeing photos of places they've been, etc. Like most things in life, some moderation and common sense make it work pretty well.
I have a great story of being facebook stalked.. it's actually playing out right now. It involves an x.. during a time I like to call 'WTF was I doing'.
It's a story that needs [Beer]and [Pop].
my wife opened mine, at first it was interesting to see and hear from some old friends or keep in touch with ones I don't call on a regular basis, but then it got weird with ex's or people I didn't really want to see always wanting to get together for lunch or hang out. I prefer to hide behind my screen name, and not post every event or every aspect that takes place in my life for all to see.

Go to the top right and click "account" then "privacy settings". once on this page click "Customize settings" from here you can change everything to "friends only" and gives you semi-privacy. But its some what of a delusion as Facebook is still going to sell any info of ours off to corporate interests. Remember to never add your phone number or address.
Also on the privacy page is "Connecting on Facebook" (select view settings). Here you are able to make yourself un-searchable and not allow people to contact you unless you are already friends.
Stalkers are entertaining at first, but it wears off quickly.

How is it that between user forums, email, cell phones, land lines, satellites, gps, twitter, BBS, P2P, smoke signals, pheromones, carrier pigeons, wolf whistles, cat calls, bedroom eyes, sonar, radar, FLIR, NV, illuminated reticles, I pad, kindle, steve jobs, coffee shops, fetish clubs, dive bars, and Al Gore inventing the internet...
...that people HAVE to use FaceBook to stay in touch with their friends and family?

If you insist on remaining on Facebook, lock it down as tight as you can.
Kill chat ... crank all the privacy settings to maximum and consider running third party apps to keep it in line.
Back before I deleted my FB account (and you have to jump through a lot of hoops to actually delete it instead of just deactivate it) I had several greasemonkey (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/) scripts running along with a couple third party plugins for Firefox that made FB look and function better (and block all that obnoxious Farmville/Mafia wars crap).
However they change FB often enough that you really have to keep up on the third party apps so I imagine most of the ones I was using are dead and would need to be replaced with new ones (so that's why no links here).

Well I've had 0 contact with her in several years.. but I was always questioning some of the people on FB who tried to add me.. for good reason too. Well one of them added my current gf, the day after we changed our status to 'married'. The fun began.. it's amazing how easy it is to mess with people when they assume you are stupid.
