I have not done 3 gun yet but I will give it a try. The problem is my addiction to sporting clays may cause me to have to sell my house and move into my parents shed so I can pay for shells.

All the others I have used my shotguns for. Anybody else pheasant hunt that is my favorite shotgun hunting.

Wait til your wife gets hooked. Then the rate of shell usage doubles.
We got into reloading, but still, you can go through unbelievable amounts.
Addictive like crack.
I think I shot over 10,000 rounds last year, and the wife did like 7,000 (we didn't get married til June)
Then you have tuesday night trap, taking afternoons off to go get in a round. it's bad. :P

I have 5 shootguns and i'm looking for a few more. I love to shoot Sporting Clays and Upland game with my Side by Side 20 ga. 3 of them are 12 ga. One model 500 for home defence and zombie deturant. Two 835 3 1/2" Magnum Waterfowl busters. And a over & under Savage 22 LR W/20 ga. Rabbit / Varmit gun. I'll be bird hunting from Sept. 1st until Jan. 31st with a little Archery Big Game Season in the mix. There's nothing better than hunting with a good bird dog and friends. I'm a tri-state hunter-Colorado, Nebraska and Kansas. I have a German Shorthaired Pointer ( Buck ) and a Wirehaired Pointer ( Maggie ) they keep me busy that's for sure. Later, Larry [buck]

The simple, sad answer is....not much

In my youth I hunted and shot trap

But I am not much of a hunter any more

I have been resisting the sporting clays addiction (so far)

And as far as defensive uses, I am afraid that I don't see much that a carbine will not do better...I see shotguns as a "niche armament" with a smoewhat more narrow engagement range than other long guns

But don't get me wrong....all firearms are intrinsically good

we all need more.....lots more

And I still practice occaisonally with my 590

My 870 ran me almost $250. Most decent ARs dont start less than $750-800. If someone breaks in my house, I would rather they steal a shotgun than an AR.

You forgot the "Collecting Dust" option. That's about all I use mine for anymore. Ain't no pheasant or quail where I live.

Bought a Rem. 870 Express in 1987. 28" vent rib with interchangable chokes, modified installed. Hunted pheasant with that rig while I still lived in Nebr. Moved to Colo. a couple of years later and there isn't any birds to speak of here. Installed a 20" barrel with improved cylinder choke for fun and home.

You know? It's been so long since I've seen it I'm not real sure just where it's at. [abused]

The only reason that I have a shotgun is because I got a killer deal on mine. I've never been a big shotgun shooter but now that I have one I really want to get into it. It's just finding the time that I've been having trouble with. For now I use it for home defense. It's a Mossberg 500 with an 18" barrel so I don't think I'll be doing much skeet shooting unless I decide to break down and get a better barrel that's more suited to it. I wouldn't hesitate to try with what I've got, though

Tain't the shotgun it's the shooter.
example a: i took my tactical remington 870 to the trap range. 22, 23, 22, 21 (which is better than I normally shoot). (18.5" barrel, extended magazine, cylinder choke, knoxx stock, etc)

example b: Was at the skeet range, shooting with this old guy who was out visiting his son. he borrowed his son's shotgun. a 20ga 870 express, short barrel, plastic stock, etc. We shot 3 rounds together, he never missed one. (turns out he shot a LOT of skeet at home, but still)

We are going to do a sporting clays day early in June.
